Default ALPA Leadership and scabs

In the latest Airline Pilot Magazine there is an interesting article on page 20 (Same page as "The Top 5 Villains), that Duane Woerth is quoted as saying (At the bottom right of the page):

"...Capt. Woerth, convinced the Board to recognize that the world has changed and that the union needed to get past scab and other issues to make future union mergers possible. The resolution led to Continental and FedEx Express pilots to re-join ALPA...".
Get passed SCAB issues? So go ahead an scab, all you'll have to do to get back into ALPA's good graces is flash a little money [i.e. dues dollars] under their nose. Ironic that money is precisely why scabs cross in the first place.

I'm I the only one who is completely fed up with the current ALPA "leadership"?

Wonder if Duane considers non-FedEx ALPA members scabs.

I do.

I recall when CO was welcomed back into ALPA, and the CO MEC passed a resolution demanding fair treatment of scabs on their seniority list. I remember that CO scabs were not to be harassed, sent any bills for back dues or discriminated against. They also had to be given unconditional membership in ALPA with no strings.

The message this sends? It's okay to cross an ALPA picket line as a scab, take someone else's job, then later all will be forgiven and you can join ALPA. Then, ALPA might even help you by negotiating a big pay raise for the B-777/787s you'll be flying.

Again, the message is---scabbing pays, and it is okay with ALPA to cross picket lines they set up.

It shows that ALPO is still trying to get the APA members back in.

did you read on page 20 where they bash american and APA about safety, contracts, and political clout (buying politicans).

ALPA needs to take a look at their own contracts before saying bs like this.

It's not about anything else but ALPA. Remember that. It exists so that it may exist.

I read the magazine, too. ALPA took a lot of credit for stuff they just tagged along with. Nevermind they've presided over the largest concessionary period of organized unions.

I grew up not appreciating unions, that they'd outgrown their usefulness. After a brief period at a regional carrier, part of many that need unions, I was validated in my beliefs.

At the local level and in safety I think ALPA has and still tries to do alot of good. On many other issues, however, I think they are out to lunch, especially at the national level. Too often they look short term instead of long term.
I mean, asking me to vote for Cynthia McKinney??? What kind of drugs were they taking?? I lost what little respect I had for them when I recieved that mailing.

When wa ALPA leadership not a joke, they are no differant than anyone else. It's always about the $$. ALPA needs to protect it's leadships cushy jobs so they will wh0re themselves out to anyone for the right price.

Organized unions are the largest catch-22 in any industry, and it's only worse in the aviation industry.
