If that's true, it makes me feel better about the flow. Compass requires a degree now. I figure there's less than 50 pilots at Compass without the degree.

I wish the flow-up would go away. I do want it honored for the pilots already hired at Compass. A deal's a deal. Even though no one flowed down, this agreement might have very well saved furloughs. I still want the flow terminated after the current Compass pilots flow-up. To do that, Compass needs to make it clear to any new Compass pilots that the flow is being terminated. Actually, come to think of it, I want Compass to go away. Those DC-9 replacements should be Delta planes flown by Delta pilots to begin with.

If anybody is really considering not wearing a red tie, think again. I remember talking to one of the HR people back in 2000-2001 time frame (Plato was in charge still?) I asked her specifically about the interview uniform. She told me, face to face, wear the conservative dark suit with a red tie. So yes it does matter. If you want to work at Delta, play the game and wear the dang red tie. If not, show up in an Elvis costume. I think there's another airline that used to give points for that? I'm sure there have been pilots that have been hired at Delta wearing a yellow tie. And I'm sure their cover letter ended with "Stay thirsty my friends."

I can assure you it is far less than 50. It is in the single digit range.

Somehow this has turned into a bigger issue than I thought. It kind of makes me laugh. Not at anyone or delta, just in general. If people really are getting shot down solely on the basis of a tie that's pretty weak. If they want you to wear a red tie then by all means tell them to wear one. I would hope at any airline that the pilots doing the interview wouldn't let a good person go with a tie color being the deciding vote. (unless it's extremely hidious) Maybe I'm putting more faith in judgement than I should but that's just me.

So does anyone know where the whole red tie thing came from? (industry wide) I was alway told that it's suppose to show power.

By the way it's nice to hear someones hiring.

The culprit may be a 1970's book, Dress for Success by John T. Molloy. So many people believed it was true that it became true.
