Delta is hiring now

An old timer once told me to look at the number who would retire normally, and increase that number by 50 percent. That 50 percent covers the people who lose their medical, quit, win the powerball, marry rich, inherit a fortune, invent the next sham-wow, retire early or whatever. I always thought that number was fairly high, and I've never really looked at it, but there always seem to be a lot more people gone than what the normal retirements show.
I'd imagine that the number of people retiring early will probably go down, but the number who medical out will go up. One thing is probably pretty certain, and that is a lot more people won't make it to 65 than didn't make it to 60.

Not only that, but the number of guys who don't make it to normal retirement is pretty significant. A lot of folks didn't make it to 60, and I would imagine the rate goes up dramatically once you get past 60.

Figure people are living healthier each year, but between 60 and 65 is also a big span where things unfortunately can happen, so it's still probably going to be at that 50% mark for 65, as a rough estimate.

Im sorry guys.. I am just cutting and posting off an actual thread on ALPA. It is in fact a pool of 5000-10000. If the mods need to take this down I understand. I have been out of this game too long so I am not sure what is right to post or not.
Sounds like great news to me, and for ALL!

But you also had the guys who had their retirement date pegged to how much sick time left. I know of several that had the date they were going to call in sick down to the day. Some had well over 2000 hours of sick which would give them 2+ years at 80hrs/month. Not saying all did this but out of that 50% I don't think 50% or more of them would not be an exaggeration. Don't see that happening now. The Delta sick leave/LTS policy does not encourage this like the old NWA.
According to statistics from the NATCO third floor, the number back in 2005 was 50% were medically retired upon their 60th birthday.

From a good source and to "ease" some minds.
DAL is swamped at this time.
HR is swamped.
FLT-ops is swamped.
Dont worry they are taking a "little-break" to catch up on the interviews and classes. They will continue after they catch their breath.
Continue to update and (I know it is hard) but try to relax.
