The amount of pilots to be brought in this year was the 300 number. Next year sounds like the spicket may finally open up for long term. You have no reason to believe me but before you dismiss me as someone stirring the pot, you should check with moak. Time will tell but check with moak before telling someone "um no"
Agreed. I would love to see 300 in 2010 and at least quadruple that in 2011.

Lets hope nothing derails the progress this industry is making.

You always post good info. The briefing I received was 2011 may include upwards of 60 pilots per month. International destinations will require a big uptick since all 757 and 767 will be online requiring more pilots to staff the international ops. Left feeling a few things .

1) more former nwa pilots may retire early
2) fewer then 50 percent returning from furlough but maybe holding off as they can pick what class they would like to be placed in as long as it is this year.
3) 2011 hiring, obviously variables apply, but will likely be greater then the 300 hired or brought back this year and could be closer to the 60 per month

There have been many stating that they would not be overly surprised at what you are stating.

The numbers are there. I would love to see it.

Alright, somebody with a brain illuminate me. Why is there some apparent prejudice against the civilian pilot from the military trained pilot. Does someone have a superiority complex?

This military pilot welcomes any flowthrough, off the street, furlough bypass, or oddball night freight non-turbine pilot to the rolls of DAL, first ones on me and if you dont drink I'll buy dinner.

Hiring is a good thing - Rejoice!

Amen Scambo!

That flow is contractual and therefore we should all be happy it is there. It more than likely helps the junior pilots out in 2009.

I'm against the flow. I will be open about it. I want it honored for the current Compass pilots because they were promised it. I would like to see it end for all future Compass pilots. I've talked to pilots who have interviewed at Compass and Delta or Northwest. Every single one of them has the said the Compass interview was a joke compared to the other two. When you only pay your pilots $23/hour with no giant raises in sight, you are not going to attract the best candidates. There are more pilots at Compass without degrees than the Compass pilots on this board are leading on. IT IS NOT IN SINGLE DIGITS. It is closer to 50 or about 15% of their pilot group. Personally, I never would have flowed down to Compass. The threat of me flowing down alone might have prevented my furlough though. There was a time at Compass when they started hiring flight instructors with 800 hours of total flight time. ALPA stepped in to put a stop to this very quickly, but the pilots hired with this low time and no degree were allowed to keep their job. They will be Delta pilots some day without even being competitive for a regional job. I feel that every single 121 pilot for all airlines should have a degree so take what I say with a grain of salt.

One other thing to factor is we have over 400 on mil leave and some of those guys are about to hit their 5 year clock - hard to say how many but I doubt Delta is going to waive the 5 year rule (USERRA) for those guys.

Who said there was a military bias. Maybe it just seems that way because Delta used to be so heavy on ex-military (I think at one point it was almost 85%). I welcome ALL new hires - bring on as many as Delta can handle - expansion and upward movement is great!!!!!!!!!

Well unless you are willing to throw that flow away, it is here to stay.

As you have said, they put a stop to that. Also, watch who runs CPS hiring from this point forward. The hires will be qualified.
