Sound off for Midwest Airlines
My very first Airline interview was with Skyway Airlines. To get to Milwaukee I had the pleasure of riding in the back of a Midwest Express Airlines DC-9 both ways. It was the ME of legend. As excited as I was about interviewing to finally start my 121 career, I was equally in awe of the 'Best Care in the Air'. Huge leather seat, steak dinner on china with the linen napkins, (I passed on the free wine because I was technically on company time) and of course the warm cookie.
The name will always evoke a remembrance of those mythical 'good old days' of aviation. In some ways, ME was like the last bastion of what flying was like in the beginning. As a Frontier pilot, I am admittedly partial to our name. But it is like any great thing - it should be remembered for what it was and what it meant in its prime. Let all these thoughts of the Post-911 Midwest Express, or the post-TPG Midwest Airlines, or the final months of blue Embraers just fade away. Let only the good ones be remembered.
No matter what we do, Frontier will never be what Midwest Express was in its prime. That is why I can say with complete sincerity, that Midwest Express Airlines should rest in peace.
I am but one man with very little say in all of this gargantuan mess and how it will be sorted out. But I hope that as many of you as possible, and are inclined to do so, can make it back here to help us 'pay the Midwest ideal forward'.
(There are plenty of other threads to bash and flame about the situation. If you feel you must do so, go there to do it. Please reserve this one for great Midwest stories and well wishes to their people.)

Thank You
Very eloquently stated and truly appreciated. As one of the legacy drivers at YX, there were wonderful times. I sit here today in my hotel, employed by another carrier, looking out at 25L at LAX, I can only smile when I think of all the friends and adventures I had the privilege to share with the Best Care In the Air.
With a heavy heart I bid the Midwest Airline name a fond and glorious
goodnight!
