Alaska Airlines, The FAA, The Whistleblower
Federal trial is scheduled to start this Spring.

These problems are rooted in the FAA's mandate to "Promote and oversee aviation" They cannot do both effectively because they are contradictory.
And, of course, this is not unique to Alaska. Southwest and AA have recently been in the news for bypassing required MX items the local POI illegally allowed.
While I don't enjoy the scrutiny or getting my chops busted by a "pencil pusher" in my jumpseat, I think the FAA needs sharper teeth to enforce a safe aviation system. They need to do away with the 'promote' aspect of their job.

I'm not sure "Legal Showtime" is providing much more than a one sided platform for a Plaintiff's case. It provide some feel good for the Plaintiff, but which probably will not help her get her case settled. Suing the Federal Government is difficult under Federal rules.
Additional background is that Mary Rose Diefenderfer was a Texas International Pilot. She apparently was not in the loop in the change in maintenance procedures which allowed a waiver on lubrication of the MD83 jack screw.
While there are legitimate whistle blowers, sometimes they are just malcontents who take issue with everything. Hard to tell what this is based on only hearing one side.
As part of my other job, I've held that jack screw in my hands (it is encased in resin to facilitate non destructive testing). Very eerie feeling ... .

Mary Rose isn't a malcontent. And unfortunately, she was right for the most part.
The only part of the program that was out to lunch was the lawyer's last comment. The pre-261 mentality has changed quite a bit.

Wow, you did not even try to spell that right. Phonetic spelling, very 3rd grade. You managed to merge 18th century slave talk and a tuna brand, impressive.
For future reference, misspelled words get underlined and you can right click to the correct spelling.
