That comparison is pretty bad. Mostly, Delta flies to Paris to connect passengers to Europe and Africa. Mostly, Air France fliest to our hubs to connect passengers to the U.S. and Latin America. Now, compare how many flights Air France flies to the U.S. and Latin America and how many flights we fly to Europe and Africa. That is the comparison you need to figure out.

The only "positive" I can see in this deal is younger, much lighter, and better looking flight attendants for Delta.

Reference RA's On-Line Chat a few weeks ago. We are going to "Lease Back" those jets to JAL. It is just mere concidence that they are also going to drop them from their fleet after we buy them and lease them back. In effect we buy, they lease them and then reject the leases. Quite tidy.

Is this clever marketing or an act of desperation?

American Airlines vies for premium flyers with free helicopter rides to Tokyo airport - CNBC
Would they do this in Dallas?

So let me get your comparison straight. AF flies more of our connecting passengers to the US than we do to France.... BUT... because we fly more passengers to Latin America and Europe than they do,(and I'll betcha that they have al least as many if not more destinations in Africa than we do) somehow this equates to a the AF JV being a good deal thereby invalidating his comparison? Is that what you are saying? Please use a crayon for me because I am obviously to dumb to comprehend just how those two things are even close to being related.

this guy alfaromeo is clueless-he is probably french...he probably doesn't even know what a JV is or what a 5th freedom is. besides I would never put KLM and AF as one group..they are separate airlines flying under separate certificates, unions, hubs etc etc. my point is JV= KLM-NW(delta) has always been pretty fair but JV=AF-delta is just outrageous, ridiculous and insane.

Okay, here comes the crayon. We could either fly two jets from JFK to Budapest and Prague, or we could put those pax on one jet to Paris and have them connect. Which scenario is better for Delta pilots? We fly to many more cities in AF's backyard than they they fly into our backyard. They have to feed our hubs because they can't do as much direct service as we do. Maybe we should cancel the NYC 767ER category and just fly three whales a day to Paris. Would that make you happy? That would make Air France happy for sure.

Door number 3... buy more jets and do all three. You are still arguing 2 completely different points.

How would that make AF happy? They way you spun that you should work in DC. This had nothing to do with us flying to BUD or Africa or Mars for that matter. And FWIW, I think the market in those cities closer to France are a little more desirable than the few worthwhile markets close to our backyard. Yeah, I'm guessing that there are tons of Parisians wanting to go to Tijuana or Mexico City. Oh.. I forgot Quebec.. my bad.. But Americans going to BUD, PRG VCE, TXL, FRA, SVO, ACC, .... probably not as many. This discussion was about the fact that AF flies into a ton of US cities, and we don't even serve the two biggest common ones, and the perception of that just leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. But for the sake of argument with your spin.. what is it that makes you think we cannot fly to BUD AND CDG? Why is it that AF has to be doing ALL our flying from JFK to CDG? I know it's a politicaal business decision, but you cannot honestly sit there and tell us that it is better for DAL pilots to have another group doing that flying. Your credibility just fell out the window.. but I would love for others to chime in on this.

Looks like we are being played by JAL and the Japanese government, NIKKEI.com is stating the JAL Chief is hesitant to dump AMR for Delta. Sure hope plan "B" is ready to go or we may find out we are behind the old eight ball.

Firstmob;

Time will tell. I know that if I was King, I would stand on our offer. It is better by a lot. It is a better revenue stream, and has many more options for JAL. Might just be a way to fleece us for a extra billion or so. We just showed that we have a billion laying around.....
