I'm sure choosing AMR was welcome news to UAUA/CAL as well. They'd rather compete with JAL/AMR then JAL/DAL.
Agree with you there Schwanker as far as the stock price, the rest is up for debate.

Hey I agree, sometimes being the loser is the best deal. I like our plan B that may have been executed with JAL on our team. Japan is not where it is at, China is and we need to tap that market and soon.
Agreed. While Japan is the second largest economy and does a ton of traveling it has been a stagnant economy for nearly 20 years. While it could/would have been a huge coup to get JAL, I think the Chinese carriers present better growth opportunities. They have relatively few carriers serving the country and the middle class there is growing in good percentage points every year. I often wondered if we realized that and that's why we pressured AMR to pursue JAL and distract them from a larger win further west of them.

Maybe. I am sure that many have seen what we see. Time will tell if we get what we want.

Maybe if you compare the route maps/frequencies throughout the Pacific (as well as the Narita presence) between AMR and DAL, you'll come to the same conclusion.
