Agreed. While Japan is the second largest economy and does a ton of traveling it has been a stagnant economy for nearly 20 years. While it could/would have been a huge coup to get JAL, I think the Chinese carriers present better growth opportunities. They have relatively few carriers serving the country and the middle class there is growing in good percentage points every year. I often wondered if we realized that and that's why we pressured AMR to pursue JAL and distract them from a larger win further west of them.
