The way it was explained to me was that we have a tight agreement with Alaska for 10 years to provide feed. Part of that was we have right of first refusal if anyone makes an offer for AK, or there is a huge penalty to be paid if someone buys them and tries to end the contract.
Of course, they could have been full of it too....

Part of the agreement of buying them is the acknowledgment that you will pay the penalty fee. It's called a poison pill. Just like the successorship language in most PWAs.

let's all hope this new JV with JAL is not like the one DELTA signed with AIR FRANCE...if you look at the JAN 2010 skyguide edition you will note that AIR FRANCE has 17 frequencys DAILY between PARIS and USA...DELTA only has 5....2 of those on a 757. heck delta does not even fly between new york and paris!!! the most popular city pair on earth.

I agree, we should def. have at least SOME of the JFK-CDG flights, although by JV, the corporation gets an equal share of the flight no matter whose metal operates the flight(which does us no good as pilots in a direct sense, but only indirectly as working for a company that isn't loosing money so we all still can have a job).

One of the things that we do not see is the amount of premium traffic that we are gaining from this JV. It does not directly benefit the pilots but it give the corporation a steady stream oh high priced traffic. Add to it we take the passenger from the AF flight and connect him on DAL metal.
Also the PIT and RDU to CDG flights would not work if AF was not there to connect our passengers to other cities we do not serve beyond Paris.

Just to clarify, but it's only PIT-CDG. The RDU flight was postponed because of the downturn. Don't know if they will ever do it. I hope since I live in RDU.
