Default CO announces another summer route...

...despite the fact that we will be operating with even fewer pilots than last summer and no further recalls on this bid.

"Sorry, but First Officer Smith isn't available to come to the phone. Can I have him call you back for this junior manning opportunity?"

Continental Airlines Announces Nonstop Service Between Portland and Anchorage

Press Release
Source: Continental Airlines On Friday January 15, 2010, 1:13 pm

HOUSTON, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) today announced daily summer seasonal service between Portland, Ore. and Anchorage, Alaska. The nonstop flights will operate from June 10, 2010 through Sept. 6, 2010.

"We're pleased to expand our service to Anchorage with another route from the Pacific Northwest," said Jim Ferea, Continental's managing director scheduling. "The new flights will provide more convenience for our customers and will complement our existing Anchorage service from Seattle and Houston."

The flight from Portland International Airport (PDX) will depart at 6:10 p.m. and arrive at Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC) in Anchorage at 8:55 p.m. The return flight will depart Anchorage at 1:25 a.m. and arrive in Portland at 6:15 a.m. Continental will operate the flight with a Boeing 737-800 with 160 seats.

(The remainder deleted by me as it is the usual "Continental is the best airline with the best employees with lots of awards" blah, blah, blah.)

A 4:30 sit and a 12:45 duty day? Gotta love it. Of course we've done this every year and out of Seattle too; however, we never had a 4+ hour sit. It used to be a EWR trip. Late night to SEA or PDX and then the red eye turn the next night followed by the red eye back to EWR on day four.

Are you saying it is going to be scheduled as a turn for the crews because of past practices? Just wondering because there is no pairing information with these flights in them this far out. With a 4:30 sit, as you say, maybe it will be an overnight? I would bet you are right given the way the company loves to schedule us, but we can never know.

I don't think that would be allowed on a red eye under either ALPA's or the ATA's flight/duty time proposals.

The ANC flights for CAL are layovers. At least they always have been in the past.
