Cal system bid, no recalls yet...
In order to meet the flying requirements associated with the summer 2010 schedule System Bid 11-02 is being issued. There are 38 Captain vacancies on this System Bid resulting from recent pilot retirements. These Captain vacancies occur across all fleets. Additionally this bid anticipates the return of some pilots from previous COLA offerings. Even though there are vacancies, this bid will not result in the recall of pilots from furlough.

It was to be expected with negotiations going on. We keep reaping the benefits of Contract '02. Watch how high PBS will drive the line divisors up this summer! I just can't imagine being 60+ with 700k lump sum.....and wanting to endure another summer.

Not all that surprised though unfortunately.
FYI
COLA 10 has 64 pilots with scheduled return dates in the spring of 2010.

I know that no one turns 65 this year, I was just amazed at the lack of retirement paperwork submitted for the next few quarters.
I do think this bid takes into account the returns from COLA, but for the life of me - I still don't understand how it can be flat. I've worked the numbers over and over. As someone pointed out to me yesterday, the company can do this as long as they want - and can run a bid whenever they want to correct their error if staffing becomes an issue. With hogs lined up at the trough, the issue will not surface anytime soon.
If we were not in negotiations, and if our co-workers weren't lining their pockets with VJM/open time- I'd wager this would have been a recall bid.

I would like to add that I am disappointed at the lack of people kicking and screaming over the fact that the 737 flying is being given away at such an alarming rate to the Colgan Q400's. The trend is not favorable and I am VERY sure I'm not the only one who sees this cheapen the brand as the company continues to use this as a back door to the scope clause. Interesting how ALPA represents both 'us' and 'them'. Tell me if that isn't a conflict of interest!
On a side note, the RUMOR has it that the NPRM is due out soon and WILL NOT affect our staffing requirements.
socal, I hope you've found work during your furlough. I've been out on leave, but when riding around on CAL or bumping in to people in EWR - I can honestly say it's the angriest I've seen the pilot group in the few short years since I started at CAL.
