How can a company, so soon after teetering on the brink of cashing it in, come up with the money to buy Northwest? Their management has royally ____ed many of the workers who have made them who they are in the air transport business, yet this thread continues. I am not tossing out flame bait. For years this company was looked upon as a "Blue Chip" in the airline industry. In Japan loyalty is a quality that is honored. It was once also at D____. I don't see how their management thinks they will be the same in 10 or 20 years when they abandon and break their word to the employees that keep the customer coming back. Back when I was trying to get hired I would have been thrilled beyond imagination to be hired by D. I'm glad I don't work there.
Actually, our current management beats the socks off the Mullin, Reid, Burns era. However, Richard Anderson may have completed the mission he was sent to Delta to achieve. Recently I see Ed Bastian taking more and more of THE pivotal leadership roles. He made a few statements during bankruptcy that were concerning and like Arpey at American, comes from a finance background.
The business is very delicate and not a good place to try out Harvard case studies or new "paradigms."
I liked Jim Whitehurst, but his "go alone" and grow Delta plan did not find favor with our Board which is made up of representatives of some parties who have no long term interest in the airline business. They wanted a quick deal to cash out. Richard Anderson was brought in to complete a mission and his execution has been very good.
Looking forward the future is uncertain, as it is for everyone in this business. But your rant seems almost five years late when viewed in light of current events.

Also, for context on the forum - you are aware that this is a labor forum and few, if any here have control over airline management corporate decisions.

Bob Slydell: Milton Waddams.
Dom Portwood: Who's he?
Bob Porter: You know, squirrely looking guy, mumbles a lot.
Dom Portwood: Oh, yeah.
Bob Slydell: Yeah, we can't actually find a record of him being a current employee here.
Bob Porter: I looked into it more deeply and I found that apparently what happened is that he was laid off five years ago and no one ever told him about it; but through some kind of glitch in the payroll department, he still gets a paycheck.
Bob Slydell: So we just went ahead and fixed the glitch.
Bill Lumbergh: Great.
Dom Portwood: So, uh, Milton has been let go?
Bob Slydell: Well, just a second there, professor. We, uh, we fixed the *glitch*. So he won't be receiving a paycheck anymore, so it'll just work itself out naturally.
