Haven't the consumers figured it out? Domestically they don't have a choise, but it seems that internationally, the foreign carriers are winning it hands down. I mean, they actually post profits. Must be doing something right.

I'm confident that we could do it, but for whatever reason, we don't.

I travel a bit overseas, and the disparities are there.
As long as the bean counters and MBA's are dictating operations and Walmartizing the airline industry, we'll stay in this spiral. We sure as hell cannot nickel and dime our way back up.....which is what they think will happen.

It's pretty bad when the level of service and the quality of food in coach on a many foreign airlines is at least equal to or better than 1st or business class on one of ours.

Fantastic new verb: "Walmartize"
Pretty much sums it up.
Be safe out there.

You might just be surprised. DL seems to be doing a few things right in the international market; had a chance to sample the new 767-400 Bus. Elite and it's pretty darned good, and with the AVOD even coach is pretty decent. Many experienced frequent travelers are starting to prefer DL over, say, Air France or KLM (at least on Atlantic routes).

Bingo! Great post! You've pretty much explained corporate America right there. MBAer's who are out of touch with reality who only want to make a profit at the expense of the customer and the employee.

Although there are plenty of reasons for the above, beancounters come to mind, a very big one is that its pretty tough to compete with companies that can exclusively hire single, under 30 year old babes for FA's and your company has to hire and retain grandmothers.

I hear the public schools in Singapore are doing a better job, too.

Probably not what US carriers have gotten, if any. And US automakers. And US banks. And US investment houses. And US insurance companies.....
