Just be happy to have a job. Even if it pays 50k a year, its still better than being unemployed and losing your house. Eventually management will take of the pilots and everything will be fine. I would not be fine with having some union trying to milk the pilots out of money and then have little to no representation.

And people wonder why the piloting profession has turned into one giant sucking sound.

This is the reality of having too many pilots chasing too few jobs. We could be paid minimum wage and people would still fly airplanes, wait, that already happens in the regionals. I have a brother who is a software engineer and guess what? Those jobs are all going to India, so its not just happening to us in aviation, its occuring in all professions.

My feeling is to do what makes you happy, if its money your interested in then maybe you need a different career like medicine. I will fly no matter what the pay is because I have a family to feed and thats all that I really need to be concerned with. You can either jump on the train or get left behind, either way the choice is only yours to make.

You must have missed the recent Alaska and Hawaiian contracts, both of which included huge improvements, not concessions. Guess Dave's lapdog is going to have to find a new talking point.

And for that, ALPA gets 1.96% of your paycheck for dues that go to them to pay their bills that they can't pay, and you get back some of your money.
You know, it's absolutely incredible that someone like you who dined on the flight pay loss tit for so long doesn't even know what the dues were that the members were paying right into his wallet. ALPA dues are 1.95%. And the bang for the buck is far superior to anything your buddy at the Airline Division could ever hope to provide.

How long did it take to get those huge improvements?

How many TA's have your signature on them?

About two years, during which time they still had a legally binding contract.

What does that have to do with the union? Without ALPA they could have been fired and not even receive furlough benefits and callback rights.

Any job protection built into this new Allegiant contract? Seems like without a union they can fire you with little to no penalty.

Also, is true that the pay rates are based on the company's financial performance? Seems risky.

I think unions are a complete waste of time and money. If your worried about union protection then maybe you are the problem. Why would anyone need someone like alpa to protect them if they are doing their job?

Unions only make up about 15% of the U.S. workforce and there is a reason for that. At one point in time they made sense but if you ask people from the UAW, Eastern, Pan Am, Continental and United how the union helped them Im sure you would get a mix of responses. I would never, ever want a union because they simply take money that should be in my pocket, quite literally its just a business for them. They have no performance based initiatives that force them to do anything for you. I would urge everyone to avoid the union hype and vote no everytime.
