Default Asleep at the wheel or technology challenged?

Do you believe the NW pilots? Were they really on there laptops or do you believe they were just trying to cover there butts because they really fell asleep and that plan backfired.

Don't know, wasn't there. I think being asleep would have been better than laptop usage as a reason if I had to choose.

I think they are telling the truth, I think it would be better for them if they had fallen asleep, because of fatigue, had they been sleeping it probably wouldnt have been willful, but involuntary. Remember being on laptops sounds innocuous, but it is a violation of a FOM therefore a willful and wanton violation of the FAR's, plain and simple. That is what cost them their certs...not the overflight.

So, let me get this straight.......

You think they were so engrossed in their laptops, that they didn't once look up in over an hour to ascertain their position?? Made no attempt to communicate with ANYONE?? Are you serious? Must have been some sort of captivating computer program

seriously whats your infatuation with this? All you've done since this happened is pretend you were there in the cockpit and witnessed it first hand.

Nope, I think they had no reason to lie to cover up sleeping when what they admitted too, was going to end up worse for them as far as certificate action. They were fired the moment the hit the gate either way. The OP asked a question and I stated my answer to him. For some reason you have a real bug up your aft end about this, and I can only think your not getting enough of the vegamite, mate....

You're right, I've been away from home for 5 years and I've definitely suffered from Vegemite withdrawals.

You're right though, no use laboring the point.

Yeah it's definitely an acquired taste, we start from a young age... My old mum gave me vegemite toast crusts when I was a teething toddler, and I was hooked.

Fosters, though, is a taste I'll never acquire... nasty stuff.

Take care mate.
