Was the ILS working on 27R in ATL?

They had one pilot down with a medical emergency. They were making a high speed approach. The loc and approach lights were out for 27R. They were given 3 runway changes in close. The last was sidestep from 27L to 27R. This was to shorten the taxi time to get faster medical attention. It was still dark at the arrival time and they had been up all night. Still does not excuse what happened but lots of mitigating factors. It looks like the crew will come out of it just fine with the FAA.

Easy on passing judgement guys...throw in some fatique, and other unusual situations and I got news for all of you "I'M ABOVE THAT" ATTITUDES, Sh!t happens. Just hope it doesn't happen to you.
I don't care what your background is and I don't care how much experience you have, EVERYONE makes mistakes in the cockpit.

Passing judgement, so your contention is they landed on the taxiway on purpose.
I do agree that sometimes bad things happen to good people. But, we get paid the big bucks to not make mistakes like this no matter what's going on with the airplane. We all accomplish training to emphasize aviate-navigate-communicate. We all are subject to routine line checks by the company as well as the feds to avoid mistakes like this.
And yes, they did have a medical emergency to the LCA (if the press reports are correct there were still 2 line flying guys working the jet). Yes there were multiple runway changes.
BUT, you never have to accept a runway change from ATC. And, If I'm an emergency aircraft, which IMO they should have been, then by God I tell ATC what I'm going to do. I don't ask.
I am more than willing to talk to the Feds and my CP about my actions to resolve any emergency situation on my aircraft

The FACT is they landed on the taxiway in good weather. The WHYS are some of the same human factors issues that have plagued aviation for decades.
But it is simply unacceptable.
The goal is perfection, not okay and well I understand it could happen to anybody and everybody in the league gets a trophy.
If the investigation shows that the Capt and FO's vision both went to crap in between physicals, well, even that isn't acceptable to me because they should be smart enough to pickup the fact that they suddenly can't read road signs and have their vision checked out.
If you're landing and wondering why they painted over all the runway markings and touchdown markings, then I'd highly suggest you go around and try it again
But it is simply unacceptable.

So you know all the facts? You have interviewed and talked to all those aboard, DAL, the airport and this is your conclusion?

Before we pass judgment on this poor crew, imagine yourself in their position right now and how you would feel knowing your job you have worked so hard to get and maintain is hanging on a balance. Yeah, it looks like somewhere along this approach they screwed the pooch but we haven't heard from the pilots yet as to their full story. I think extreme fatigue can cause even good pilots to make mistakes like this. Studies have shown that extreme fatigue degrades performance worse than being drunk.

Stop armchair quarter backing because anybody who WAS NOT in that flightdeck has ZERO right to cast judgement. Some professional.

Captain Arrogance shines again. I'm sure you've never flown fatigued, sick, while reading, talking in a sterile environment, landed in questionable wx, second guessed yourself, & done everything 100% perfect in your illustrious 30 year airline career.

I just don't suffer from the John Wayne complex... nor am I "gotta complete the misssion" oriented either. I guess that's what has kept me out of trouble during my career.
Hopefully, you'll enjoy a violation free career too. Good luck to you Johnso29.
