Default Continental Reserves

I was wondering if any Continental pilots could tell me about the 9 hour reserve, more specifically do you have to be within 9 hours driving time of the airport, or could I hope on flights to get to my base within 9 hours? I may be living in Knoxville, TN, and there are several flights each day to EWR. I was wondering if I could sit reserve in Knoxville.

Nine hours notification to push time. However you choose to get there doesn't matter.

9 hour call is "A" reserve, which are always called first. Plus the monthly pay guarentee is only 72 hours instead of 76.

Plus they can shift you to a short-call reserve at the drop of a hat and not pay you one dime extra until the 3rd time they do it to you.

More BS from our last contract that nobody bothered to read before voting on

I appreciate the information. I am a military guy coming off active duty next summer. Hopefully I will be able to get on with Continental. I have a couple of friends there that have promised to give my name to the CP. Any other advice. I currently have 2200TT 1200PIC, all military turbojet time (KC-135s and T-1s).

That sounds like a good plan. They might want to see more time, however, having your resume walked into a Chief Pilot; will help you significantly. Your going to be up against alot of regional guys with more time; but, military time is very valuable and nexted summer you'll even have more time. I wish you the best of luck. CAL is a great company, I love working here.

With no disrespect for peops who defend my kids, but why exactly does military time have so much clout? I would think that a regional pilot would hold more value, since they have been doing the same exact flying as the majors do.

Just a thought, but maybe because the people who are advising who to hire are ex military.

This might start a war, but here goes. Military pilots are a known quantity. They are usually going to be only so bad, usually not always. With a civilian pilot the variable can be much larger. Plus military pilots don't just fly from point a to b, they are usually tasked with a mission to accomplish while they are flying. The big kicker though is probably the training that military pilots go through. From ROTC, OTS, OCS, or one of the academies (notice academy is not capatalized) on through pilot training, survival training, and continued leadership development while in the military. Before anyone takes a shot at me I received my private-cfii and then joined the military, and in no way am I saying military pilots are better than civilian pilots.

Because they are better trained.
