Until one of the sides of the equation changes (pilots stop showing up to work with a limitless supply behind them to take their jobs or the customers stop buying tickets because they are not happy with the pilots that are working for the airlines), the market will continue on as it is going. Well, I guess you could try to implement more controls on the market from the government, but that wouldn't really be capitalism.
Is the market working when your company takes out a life insurance policy on you without your knowledge to collect in the even of your death?

Is the market working when the big banks go belly up then raid the U.S. treasury, but when a homeowner defaults on his mortgage he gets kicked out of his house by the same company his taxes paid the bailout to?

Is the market working when after working for a company for 30 years your pension is legally taken away from you?

Yeah, it's working for about 1% of the population and if you are on this forum, you are not part of that 1% (AND you never will be)

There is a reason he is coy with his conclusion, he is trying to substitute the fire for the frying pan and doesn't want to announce which is which.
This would give it more broad appeal without really saying what he has been saying for so long. Marketing.

I think you will eventually understand that you are looking at two sides of the same coin.
We gave a group of people unlimited power to spend our money, it hasn't worked out well for most of us.
It has almost nothing to do with Capitalism and everything to do with trying to vote yourself a favor. You will always end up paying for that favor many times over.

Opening day only brought in $1.5 million. I think the movie was ranked #7. Hardly a good showing.

And $1.2 of that was actually spent at the concession stand for popcorn and Milk Duds.

what you see now in the airlines, like most others have said, is that of a carrot being dangled in front of our faces. pilots will take low pay, bad quality of life, just to be able to get that job at a major someday (where in the past you can make a very good living). this "carrot" has now dwindled down to the size of a peanut and shrinking, where pay and qol at a major is nothing like it used to be even 5 to 10 years ago. the carrot thats in front of everyones face now is age 65 and the next "hiring boom." will this boom happen? maybe, or maybe not. but even if it does and you get a chance to go to a major within only few years of woking in the regionals, are you going to have a good life? in the pilot world i would say a lot of us believe in, "the end justifies the means." but look at the end product anymore, is it really want you want?

So...I posted the initial article to bring light of the fact that pilot pay issues were being shown in a film that I'd consider mainstream.

Can anyone else point to any effort that has brought this issue in the mainstream, perhaps in front of a movie audience? Last time I checked, the only other film out there depicting pilot quality of life was Catch Me If You Can...and it reinforced the pilot playboy stereotype (of yesteryear).

Whether or not you care about Michael Moore or what the rest of the film had to say...is the message wrong when it came to pilots dilemmas?

Also, I learned that there was a lot more to Jungle than him posting the best photographs in the forum

Here's my sad commentary, which is not about Mr. Moore, it's about us, as pilots....

1. Yes, Moore bashes Bush in the movie. (maybe 3 mins)
2. Moore spends 3x more time bashing Senator Chris Dood, Nanci Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barney Frank in the movie.
3. He spends 15 minutes hi-lighting the plight of the pilot. (Low pay, lost pensions, Sully, commuter pilots, BUF crash, ect.)
4. He spends a considerable amount of time making th point that we should have not spent taxpayer money to bail out the banks last fall. (Probably, about 20-30% of the movie)

Yet, some of you rather ignore the smoke and fire because of who the messenger is. Yeah, maybe it's a case of Moore crying wolf. But, as some of you have pointed out before, he is already a millionare. If we don't believe him in this fairy tale, we are the ones getting eaten. I feel sorry for us all until we are able to open our minds to see who is really calling a spade for a spade. Sad commentary over and out....

I'm glad you enjoyed the "art" comrade and the freedom that allows you to chose what you watch and spend your hard earned dollars on. The American people are starting to ignore the smoke and fire because they have finally figured out who the messenger really is and they don't like it. Keep bashing corporate America and pretty soon unemployment will be over 50% and you will be wishing for the good old days when you had wages to complain about. LoL
