We disagree on a subject and that's ok. Not sure why you feel the need to insult me simply because we disagree?
Many moons ago while I was working on my CFI I ran out of money and had to take a break from flying. During that time I too was told by numerous pilots out there to give up on flying; they all had hundreds of reasons for why flying wasn't what I wanted to do. I chickened out and enrolled in some refresher electric maintenance classes at the local college (have electrical enginering degree from previous life) thinking that those guys obviously knew what they were talking about. I decided to become a contractor instead.
Five months later one of my very good friends asked me why I chose to give up on my dream based on stories I heard from other pilots? She said that if they really meant what they said they'd all be "former" pilots yet none of them had quit? How come? She had a valid point so when I saved up some money I went back to flying and never looked back. Later and for embarrassingly many years I flew a Jetstream that was scorching hot in the summer and freezing in the winter making little to none - and it sucked! We had no union and no protection whatsoever, people were getting fired left and right but we still managed to negotiate a slight pay increase. Of course it was still ridiculously low.
Yet even in those days when my qol sucked so bad it was still better than if I'd been working as an electrician. Being an electrician was something I'd do if I had to, however flying was what I really wanted to do.
As far as your gojet comment - I had friends at TSA who were being laid off while gojet was being formed and I would never even consider applying at gjet. I know very little about their current situation but I remember how it all started. So to imply I was a gjet pilot simply because I disagree with you only shows your true personality.
Either way, yes this is an extremely unpredictable profession but I'm glad at one point a great friend believed in me. Had I listened to someone like you instead I'd have been miserable today, maybe even as miserable as you seem to be right now?
When people ask me what I think about becoming a pilot in today's environment I don't bs and I try to show them both the good and the bad in this field of work. Then I simply hope they make a decision that'll work for them but most of all a decision they'll never regret no matter what they decide...
PS. my "little Jet" is probably bigger than yours and I certainly don't do it "for free."
Csp - to get back to the subject. Wasn't aware of them canceling the co-op, in fact just the other day one of our part time rampers who's also a CFI on the side told me he was going to apply for it but it seems like it might not happen after all. SWA and FDX are some other great internships you should look into... Whatever you decide - good luck!
