Really? Then why is your screen name Iflyforcash rather than Iflipburgersforcash? I mean you too would be better off at McDonald's, right? ...or does your advice apply to everyone else but you?

Good news! Wheels Up is so disgusted with this disgusting career that he is going to do the honorable thing and quit for a career in the Burger industry. By the time this thread is done, enough people may relinquish their seat that you don't even have to bother with an internship, or an interview.

Didnt read every reply, so sorry if already covered. If you want to be an airline pilot, be preparred to languish in the "regionals" with low pay for a long time. Your best bet would be to look into the services (USAF, USN, CG, Marines). Try for a reserve/ guard position (can do it full time to build time). When you have the time experience, and the majors are hiring, apply. I'll bet you anything the others pilots in your unit have jobs with the big boys and can help you out. In addition, if hired, then furloughed, you can go back full time with your unit. Plus, you will have a pension after 20 yrs with the service.

As far as the many "don't do it" replies - it's true that this industry is very unpredictable and that your predictions and estimates might be crushed with the stroke of a pen - the new discrimination age of 65 being one example. Having said that, it's still an awesome profession and I'd feel the same way EVEN if I was stuck at the regionals for many years, which I was. Do what you love and stay away from the half-empty types...

we've all been there, but we think, No, Not me, I'm going to be the exception, I'm determined and I'm going to get lucky down the road.....
few actually get lucky, you see'em flying around the world in a Global Express, G-550 or 777, but the majority don't.

csp,
Good news again!
1) The bar is being lowered. You too can drop the English class to focus on beefing up your resumé.
...AND
2) It looks like another seat is being (gracefully) being vacated by another future fast-food Engineer. Looks like that industry is about to get more competitive, with all the pilots bailing out.
