Default 737 west coast to HNL, feasible?

How realistic is it to plan airline service to HNL from the west coast?

It has been done and is being done right now.

Well considering it has been done now for years by charter operations, Aloha, Alaska and now Continental to name a few, pretty realistic. Uncomfortable but well within the planes envelope.

Don't forget ATA when they were around. I think they did it out of Oakland or something like that.

Was it Aloha the one that did SNA to Hawaii with the 737-700?
I don't know how they managed to take all that fuel weight out of a 5000' runway...

CAL does SNA-EWR in a -700. HNL isn't that much further.

When ATA shut down we were doing tons of West Coast to HI stuff in the 737-800 every day. Maui, Honolulu, Hilo all done with the 73.

The 737 is not the best aircraft for those routes but it can do it. Beats the heck out of the APU's though...

Alaska has 10 flights to Hawaii with the 737-800. They even do Anchorage-Maui at 2,432 NM.

Is the size of the coach seat different? Is the padding less? No, it's the same as a wide body coach seat.

Yeah but HNL requires the fuel for ETOPS alternates - they can't have a wet footprint. EWR is a different story.
