What noone here is stating is that SWA's stock will lose $1-2 of its value, and it's market value will drop because of their failure to acquire F9. The SWA BOD is probably angry with CEO Kelly for allowing the pilot's union to drive the integration process. SWA was all about acquiring F9 and increasing market share in a valuable market---DEN. Now, a competitor purchased F9 and SWA was left holding the bag. You don't normally see management allow labor to control business decisions, like acquisitions.

I'd take option A any day
Which most likely means you don't work at F9.

Ha... that's a good one. I admit there is a small group of pilots around here who thought that might happen. Most of us knew better. Can't blame the kids for reaching for the stars can you!

Been an interesting week... best of luck to everyone involved.

That's because most management teams can't account for the value of human equity. It looks like at SWA, that may be different.

And it makes you wonder why they have been successful for 30+ years while other airlines go by the wayside.

You have to understand that killing the deal if no labor agreement could be reached was not done purely out of the goodness of their hearts, Southwest wanted no part of an arbitration. They have watched the US Air/America West fiasco and wanted no part of that mess. Although SWAPA stated that A/M would not apply I don't believe that to be true. In the end GK made a sound business decision that would not destroy the good will he enjoys, or the company culture. I for one thank him and his sound judgement. He did what was best to protect his employees just as FAPA did.

Thanks LJ. The whitecaps are starting to subside in here. Thought my little dingy was going to capsize but I'm still afloat. The next few months should be an indicator of how much longer we'll be swimming.

This whole thing was a win/win for SWA. Win the auction and they got an immediate boost to be a major player in DEN while lessening competition. By losing they gained goodwill with the SWAPA pilot group which could possibly lead to a TA sooner rather than later. They also got a good long look at Frontier's books, etc which I'm sure will help them forge their "Plan B" in DEN.

The books that are (guessing here?) 20% of Republics makeup. Frontier is no longer that airline. Better go get Midwest Express, Republic, Chautauqua, Shuttle America, Linx, etc.... The game has changed!

Now watch SWA hire one of these subsidiaries for some RJ work...

Mesa tried that with Aloha, (or was it Hawaiian,) and look how much trouble they got in. I think Kelly and crew are a lot smarter than that.
