Gojet really isn't that bad. 5 UA guys started 06/01 and a bunch more are in the next 3 classes. I think 46 to 50 total new hires in the next 3 months with more to follow.

I jumpseat and have not had any problems at all.

Not to knock you too much Shrek but have you tried to get a job recently? First of all there is the 10% unemployment rate. Home Depot is laying off people. Selling cars is out, with all of the dealership closures. I seriously doubt that you could walk off the street and snap up one of those manager jobs. I got furloughed after 9/11. My experience was that being an airline pilot worked both for you and against you. It looks impressive on a resume. I could tell that at least some of the people that I interviewed with were impressed. Here is where the problem comes in. The interviewer is going to eventually work around to a seemingly simple question that will most likely sink your job prospects. The question is "What are you going to do if/when your airline calls you back"? You answer "Yes" and the job interview is most likely over. Why would anyone take the time and effort to hire and train you for that good management job when they know that one call from the airline will cause you to walk?

Hey....to each their own!! I know many guys who have gone West to the Pacific Rim on various jobs/contracts, as well as those going to the Far East. Some of them are single, some of them have families in tow. If you want to fly bad enough and can land the palatable job over seas that works with your personal situation, it beats standing "here" complaining while you have nothing in your 'hand'.

Good on those guys who have made it work aboard. I agree, it's not for everyone, but those who can do it, good on them!

In the end, there is never going to be the "perfect" flying job out there. I'm sure even if we found it, we'd still find a way to gripe about it to some degree!

I agree, that's why I took the job with Gojet. Nothing else out there...at all!

Stay current and look for something better.

Hey, that's a choice you made under the circumstances at hand....would I do the same as far as seeking employment at GoJet....NO

As I said earlier in my post....make the choices that best fit your situation and go with it....in that context, I was speaking on the topic of foreign flying in my prior post if you go back and look.

Just because I would not go to GoJet on personal beliefs on the topic, those who do choose to go, it is their own deal. What I am sick and tired about on this thread is guys/gals throwing around the SCAB phrase. Those who do use this title as far as the GoJet discussion is concerned are using LESS than common sense/understanding of the word.

Coming from an airline who has plenty of "real deal SCABS", I do understand the definition/mantra.....those of us at UAL, CAL understand it first hand, and believe me, we do it with a sour taste in our mouths and do not condone it.

In short....if someone does, or does not agree on the GoJet topic, PLEASE understand what a SCAB is before being stupid about something that you truly do not understand.

So I'm curious how someone taking this job, that ALPA has negotiated, has low morals and is a scab. Maybe you should take your issues up with ALPA.
I meant to ask a question with my previous post.

I never considered Gojets until my union, ALPA, sent me an email about it.

Do those of you that are negative about Gojets and anyone working for them, take issue with ALPA being the ones that are providing the furloughees with the opportunity to work there? Do you think ALPA is trying to union bust? Is ALPA promoting people to become "scabs" as you say?

I know the same email was sent to you, Shrek. Have you expressed your displeasure about it with them? I think you should if you feel that strongly about it. We were in the same newhire class so even if I did put my name in the hat, I doubt it would ever get to our seniority.

I hear ya. Over the past 12 years, I have worked on several ALPA committees and been an elected rep. These kids don't really know what a scab is as they have never seen one. To them, it's just a word.

Good luck to you!

Hey D Turner,
Got the same email. Same class as you. This is UAL MEC talking about it. (Eagle ALPA discourages it, if I am correct). Funny too, how all along it was put off, until the powers that be, got (are getting) furloughed, then this was dusted off, and it's "OK" and going in seniority order instead of furlough order. I know Shrek has sent an email expressing his feelings about this. I don't even think about flying as a profession right now. I am going to rent an airplane here and there to get my fix.
Anyway, Amtrak is hiring!!! In school now. Just PM'd someone else from our class about it. He is working in ORD approach for now.

The mindless anti Gojet vocal minority aside, your post reflects reality. This hothead group only wishes half of what they say (i.e. GJ pilots will be blackballed from hiring and/or jumpseats) is true.

Thank you for being a voice of reason.
