Default Passenger Names and the TSA

My husband has a very common name, but he gets pulled aside every time we travel internationally. His real name is Robert John Smith. He prefers to be called Bob. His driver's license says Bob Smith; his passport has his full name as does his Social Security card. One credit card says Robert J Smith, but another one says he is Bob Smith. His elderly Auntie Mildred calls him BJ, obviously not knowing what BJ stands for.

So I wonder if he will be able to travel again with all this hassle.

Maybe Aunt Mildred is more savvy than you think.

Those pesky Denver TSA workers. I remember traveling there last fall from PHX. On the way out of DEN, I had to remove my liquids/gels from my carry-on that were stored like they were supposed to and place them in a seperate bin through the x-ray. Out of PHX, I did not have to do this.

I told the supervisor about it and that a little continuity would be nice. All he said was, "Well, this is how we do it."

Seems like the simple fix is to have his drivers license changed to match all of his other official documents.
