Default Crew member - Duty free

Guys, just wondering are crew members allow to buy from Duty free? or just for pax with tickets to travel outside the US?

I want to buy some goods from JFK but not sure if I can. Thanks.

Yes, crew members are allowed to buy duty free if they are operating an international flight - I have done it in JFK (terminal 3). I think there *might* be something that if you're only doing a turn (ie, coming back the same day) you might not be allowed, but I'm not positive about that.

Thanks for the reply, how they know if you're operating an international flight? Do you have to provide any proof? Reason I'm asking is, I fly for the regional and we don't operate any international flight.

If you are a passenger you have to show them an international ticket, but besides that the give you the item as you are walking onto the plane....so yes that is there checking system. So if you buy an item just to get out of paying the tax but don't go on a flight you're not going to get your item.

You can buy duty free on a turn as well. Sometimes it is even cheaper to buy duty free in the US (outbound), and then bring the item back. Some places give you airline employee discount on top of duty free.

I have yet to see a duty free in the US that has descent prices. The best prices used to be in MoBay, Grand Cayman and PVG.

dn_wisconsin gave the answer, but it was a little muddled (maybe it's just me) but in the US, when you buy duty free, they don't give you the item right there. You tell them your flight number (a pax would show a boarding pass) then the duty-free store brings all the items for that flight to the jetway and hands them out as people board the plane.

Best way for you it would be someone in your crashpad who flies international to pick something up for you.

There is a Duty Free store in IAH that would have good deals on Grey Goose from time to time.

2x (750mL) for $30. They would sell to you if you had an international boarding pass OR if you were crew and you could show them your pairing with an International destination on it.

When commuting home, I would list for an International flight and use that pass to make my purchase.

I wouldn't recommend risking a fine and Customs "black flag"
just to save a couple of bucks ....

I've bought duty free inbound in the past, not very recently, and they asked to see my rotation/pairing (insert here whatever your airline calls it).
