I brought back 3 bottles from Cancun at a "value" of $100 with nothing said by any customs official.
I think the 2 litre/ 2 bottle restriction applies to passengers??

Is there a limit? I don't know, but I do remember looking at the "crew" customs form and reading the fine print on the back and it seemed to indicate for alcohol purchases that there wasn't an exact number and the "limit" would be decided by the customs official/ "normal" personal limits.

the name, the bottle, everything was designed here in the USA to suggest you were buying premium product... the only thing they were missing was vodka to fill it with.. so they found a distillery for sale in Frahhhnce, bought it and started the charade that is grey goose (that's why there is a french flag on the bottle)
same guy who spear-headed that also began importing jaegermeister after visiting family in europe who drink it warm to settle their stomach after a big meal. he found that if he chilled it, people liked it. it's nothing more than a cheap digestif..
he recently sold the rights to both to Bacardi for around 2 billion

I brought through 2- 1 liter bottles of Absolut, both bought in Grand Cayman for a 11 bucks each. The agent didn't seem to care.

I'm thinking since either the bottle is sealed and/or the bag from the duty free is sealed (zip tied) then the restriction doesn't apply. I've only done a couple of alcohol runs, so I haven't really interacted with the fine folks from customs.
Cheers

Not illegal - he just exported the liquor, then re-imported it. If he didn't declare it on his customs form, well, then he should of. But there probably wouldn't of been any duty when he imported it.
I did that exact thing walking across the border in Mexico several times.

I am also sure the intend of duty free liquor and tobacco was not meant for flight crews flying back and forth and use the system in place.
On the other hand I have been on boat trips, that ship to international waters...you go shopping ....the boat returns. This was legal, because they were all scheduled cruises...numerous a day.
Also, if you think buying liquor on a turn is not kosher, what about the guy that buys his Rolex duty free at the airport? Does he have to leave it at the hotel when he returns?
To sum it up, when you return from your turn (sounds weird... I know) you are not importing back into your origin; you are exporting the product (duty free, of course) from another country back to your origin.

Or Johnny Walker Blue. For some reason, the going rate on a 750 mL of the Blue at most duty-frees in Mexico/Latin America is around $120-140. Add in a little bit of a crew discount (ie. MTY) and you end up with a heck of a deal. Makes for a great gift at a healthy discount for the Scotch lover (or lovers) in your family.

Duty free? heck too complicated. Lugging all that extra weight??? chance of breakage??? Go to the local super discount booze distributer... better discounts and closer to that hand crafted martini.
By the way... while on transfer in DBX I took a stroll through what they call duty free. Ouch sometmes 25 to 50 percent more expensive than the local booze distributers and Best Buy. Hey... what would you expect from a land that's going under $$$$$?
