Default Does Delta really need a 747 on ATL-HNL-ATL

Does this aircraft really fit well on this route? Are the loads that massive? I know back in 2001 Delta used to send the L1011 (I miss that airplane) on this route but that was only about 300 seats about 2 or 3 times a day. With the 747 on this route Delta now has 400+ seats and a mix of 763's and 764's flying there. Don't get me wrong, I thinks its cool that there are domestic 747 flights and I hope to nonrev on that flight before its yanked out of Honolulu. I was just wondering if the loads are there to fill up that airplane.

767-400 is not flying ATL-HNL anymore. Just SLC-HNL for now.

Yep, adding the 744 and taking out the two 765's actually reduced seats in the market. It appears to be full.
Now when they add the second NRT frequency with the 744, I personally think that the 777 will go to another route. Adding 400 seats a day is a lot of lift to sell.

I think next month they are using the 767-300 on SLC-HNL, at least for some days.

Funny how things sometimes come full circle. I rode ORD-HNL on a United 74 back in elementary school.

You're right, NWA used to use its wide bodies on domestic flights all the time before the airbii and 753 showed up.

I commercialed on the DAL(NWA) -400 about 2 weeks ago and it was pretty much full (HNL-ATL). I imagine a bunch were nonrevs, I've never seen so many kids in first class. At least they alternated sleeping cycles.

I'm guessing frequent fliers using their miles, as opposed to airline employees.

Hey,

Just be thankful you have the heavy equipment to use on routes that require one. CAL is swapping out its 757/767-400 LAX-HNL route to 737's by years end.

We are the most anemic major carrier out there when it comes to widebodies.

Ya, but which of the following would you rather be at right now, Delta, US Air, United or CAL? The past few years CAL seams to be the only one with its head on straight, I hope it stays that way. Thank god they didn't merge with United!!
