YOu are incorrect. The law is actually directed at non union or different union mergers. It has a exception for situations where it is the same union to allow the existing union rules to be used. If the airlines are different unions or non union then Alleghany Mohawk applies.

Default Seattle

After thinking about it I think it would make the most sense for SWA to buy Alaska Airlines. SWA has been trying to effectively break into the Seattle market for a long time now. By purchasing ALK not only would SWA get the planes but they would get the gates as well.

My guess is that they would let a bunch of Alaska's leased 737s go back and would reduce the base size a bunch. Most of the employees would be assimilated into the company. Their biological and technological distinctiveness would be added to the collective.

Actually, Sun Country makes sense, especially if they want to open MSP. By the way, you may remember that SWA bought a DC-9 operator out of LUV (Muse Air) just to kill that competition.

NWA later sold their gates at MDW following the failed Midway takeover to SWA. NWA received a small cash amount an DC-9-50s from SWA.

Not correct at all! While I would not say that SWA did not buy Muse to eliminate competition, Muse (specifically Michael the son not Lamar) invited Herb to buy Muse. Muse had only MD-80's and was having difficulties because the PATCO strike (controllers) happened at a time when they were supposed to start making money. SWA never had DC-9-50s.

NWA pulled their offer to purchase Midway (1991) after the state of MN questioned Al Checci (NWA CEO and his cronies) about a maintenance facility the the citizens of MN were about to pay for. So much money to buy Midway but none for the maintenance facility. Midway went down immediately and SWA sent employees the next day to Bogart the gates a MDW. BTW, NWA Alpa and MDW alpa had an agreement to merge the seniority lists and then the rug was pulled out from under Midway Airlines.

Any guesses as to who it is? AS? F9? Any seniority integration speculation?

most airlines are "looking" to be profitable too.....even SWA

An unmanned carrier? Wow! I didn't realize the technology for that yet existed. Not sure I want to ride on that airplane.
