Default SWA set to invade LGA in June

"Airline will use 14 slots it acquired from ATA Airlines following bankruptcy court approval of $7.5 million transaction
Southwest will begin service from New York LaGuardia to Chicago Midway and Baltimore Washington Airport June 28, making use of the 14 LaGuardia slots it acquired from ATA Airlines in late March following bankruptcy court approval of the $7.5 million transaction."

From aviationweek.com

They may have done a little horse trading on the slots, the schedule shows 8 round trips a day. 5 to MDW, and 3 to BWI.

So actually 16 flights a day, not bad. . . to start.

I think SWA may just prove everyone wrong that with smart scheduling, you can have LGA and no delays.

LGA today is a different animal than a year ago. Before, I can recall being 40 for takeoff and shutting down engines for an hour. With the reduction in flights, I haven't seen anything like that now. The farthest I've been in line for takeoff is #6.

It was worse pre March 2001. Not uncommon to time out on the taxi ways. After the "slottery" in March 01', LGA seemed like a ghost town many times during the day. It was a refreshing change to show for a 4 day trip and ACTUALLY fly the entire 4 day trip.

Wasn't that great for the paycheck though.

I was about #25 few weeks ago. It was raining though. Usually its no more than a 10-20 minute taxi.

Southwest is good, but NO one can escape the tangled web woven on a high wind or low vis day. I don't give a crap who you are.

That is close to the most rediculous statement I have ever read on this board. I just did LGA yesterday, middle of the day, wind 250/10, 10sm, 5500 few......1 hour and 30 min atc delay. It is unavoidable.

Maybe they'll get used to arrival holding patterns???? Actually, LGA is number 2 behind EWR. But, welcome to the party anyways!!!
