AMR - Just curious
I see the junior captain at AMR and wonder two things. Is 1992 really correct? If yes, WOW! What is the major difference between AMR and say CAL or UAL when it comes to upgrade dates?
Also, "IF" UAL & CAL do eventually join forces, does AMR need to make a move or go it alone? Again, just curious and best of luck with the negotiations!

Hi Grant. Yes that's correct. All I can offer is a little history as I mostly fly with the senior CA's here. 1978, 79 big hiring at AA. Early 1980 saw a furlough. Hiring began again big in 1983-84. Nothing in 85. Then Huge hiring in 86-93. Lot's of 5 year CA's upgrades. 86-87 saw 1,000 a year hired. All young guys and gal's.
Everyone hired was young. Rarely anyone beyond 35 yrs old. After the deliveries of the Super 80 only upgrades on the jr equip (FK and 727), then we furloughed in 93.
1998 began hiring at a fast pace and upgrades came down to 1989 so 9 year upgrades.
I'm not telling you anything new, growth and retirements cause upgrades. Something we've had very little of here at AA.
Until the last few years my buddies at UAL have always told me it was about 5 years to 737 CA.
CAL i've read has some jr CA's in EWR.
I'm a big fan of Continental. Always have been.
A friend of mine ex-ATA leaves for a flying job in Africa soon. He really like ATA. When I was a young & single he fixed me up with several ATA FA's. It's true. "Coast out, Bra's off"
Also, several times I rode on ATA to parties. The FA's made sure I had my own row. And tropical drinks!
A salute to all the former ATA ites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not totally correct.
The hiring was continous from June 1984 until 1993 (not sure what month)
