Democrats hate guns, and love to over regulate everything about them.

The rest of us hate crime and criminals... not objects.

It's kinda like hating cars because drunks cause accidents.

Just as the actual statistics of the number of crimes prevented by gun ownership/use is also equally higher than the anti-gun crowd wants to admit.

What kind of double talk is that? How can you advocate supporting the Bill of Rights... and then say it is "ok" to regulate? You either regulate it, or you don't. Once the door to regulation is open, then it is just a matter of opinion as to what is too much, or too little... and nobody will ever agree on what is too much, or too little. I don't see you advocating regulation of the press or freedom of religion? Why is one right suddenly less important to you than another?

So is it also dishonest to use the 1st aamendment and be part of a large rally on the National Mall?

Really, I see them as providing an option. The owner does not HAVE to resort to the use of a firearm. The unarmed person simply denies themselves that option or choice.

Freedom of choice... except in gun ownership right...

Nothing equal about it. Far more gun owners are hurt by their own firearms than instances of gun ownership preventing a crime. The FBI statistics indicate this year after year.

It's not double talk at all and you're making a gross oversimplification......it's almost ridiculous. It is not black and white.....few things are. Supporting the right to own firearms is not necessarily in opposition to regulation. Background checks, strict licensing for fully automatic weapons etc all fall under regulation and it's par for the course. What part of the words "....well regulated...." in the 2nd amendment do you not understand? What's next? Since it is illegal to yell "fire!" in a crowded theater, are you going to say that regulation is in opposition to free speech?

Sheesh! Look, this thread is about FFDO's and somehow morphed into gun rights issues. It is not about the rest of the Bill of Rights. I didn't say anything about the press or religion because it is off topic. Using your thinking, I could say that I don't see you advocating the prosecution of murderers so you must believe it is okay to murder. Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?

Explain to me how you can prove that an event that never took place (i.e. a crime) was prevented by such and such!!! Did someone in a white trenchcoat carrying a clipboard follow a bunch of criminals around one day?

I really love your 2nd paragraph, by the way. No room for compromise or responsible legislation here! Everything in the world is black/white, good/bad, us/them.

I actually agree with your statement about providing an option. In some self defense situations, guns can be a good option, and in other situations guns may be of no practical value. Those folks who have a "one size fits all" (i.e. gun ownership solves everything) attitude towards self defense have a serious lack of understanding of the nature of fighting and street violence. This is akin to fighting a war with just air power assets. And again, WHERE in any of my previous posts (ok, I know that one of them was hard to read!) did I say that you should not be allowed to own a gun? If anything, I encouraged some people to get more guns!!! The main point that I wanted to make is if you want to put all of your self defense eggs into one basket, then you better hope that those eggs are not going to crack in a high pressure situation! This is accomplished through regular and intense training. This way you will have a better idea of what you are truly capable of. Anything less than this is deluding yourself. Honestly, I don't know why some of you people find this concept to be so offensive (maybe it struck a nerve!)!!! I'm really not impressed by people who SAY that they would do such and such in a given self defense situation, before they have actually DEMONSTRATED the technique in question (under high pressure conditions). TALK IS CHEAP!!! Perhaps the following will illustrate my point:

Hypothetical situation at XYZ airline:

Droog: Hello, I just finished sim training and I'm here for my checkride.
Checkairman: Hello, my name is Captain Dick Jackman, and I'll be giving you the checkride today. It will just be the usual drill. We'll do the oral, and then hop into the sim and do a V1 cut, troubleshoot the emergency , and then do a single engine ILS.
Droog: Well Captain Jackman, you should know that my sim instructor demonstrated V1 cuts and single engine approaches to me. Also, I'm a very safe pilot, and I always fly like my family is on board. So I assure you that I would indeed safely perform these maneuvers in a real life situation.
Checkairman: I'm glad to hear that, Droog. Let's not even waste our time going to the sim. I'll just go ahead and issue you your SIC type rating now!

Wow, I feel like I'm reading a thread on the politico.com than a thread about major airline pilots and the FFDO program.
...
Does anyone have FFDO training come soon? I was thinking about doing it myself now that I am no longer only doing international flying.

I leave for training a week from tomorrow, April 5. The whole process has been pretty painless up to this point. I am extremely excited about the training and have only heard good things about it.

You are going to have a great time. One of the premier training events of my career.
