I hate to ask, but do you have any idea if the guy was an LCA? Only reason I ask is because, from the right seat, I've seen this twice and both times the CA was an LCA. Don't get me wrong, Captains, it's your PA. Say what you want to say. I've just noticed a (admittedly small) pattern, and I wonder if there's some guidance from above to "personalize" the crew. I flew with an LCA last month that made a lengthy PA right after the pre push acars detailing his background, my background, all the FAs names, and various aeronautical minutiae (by the way, when you tell people you're flying over Dryer, OH, they don't have any idea what you're talking about. Take a minute to consult a map and realize the big city on Lake Erie is actually called Cleveland). Since the pre push acars is my cue to go pee, I got multiple opportunities to see our HVCs looking either glazed over or downright annoyed during the PA. As a pilot, I couldn't care less about the case the guy in 1B successfully litigated or the buyout the lady in 22D just facilitated. I'm quite sure they care just as little about my CV as I care about theirs. And leave my name out of the PA. It's nobody's business.
And just so no one accuses me of pointing out problems without offering solutions, maybe we can call it a PRS (professional rap sheet) or CPSC (chronology of professional street cred) or AYM (ask your mom)?
Sorry, ignore this post. The CV thing just really grinds my gears, almost as much as outsourcing our core business. Almost.

My.
God.
I get hawking the credit cards and whatnot, but an agressive sales pitch can be condensed into about a tenth of the bandwidth we're using now. Seriously, its beyond noise pollution.
I'm about ready to start thinking that the PA needs to have a guarded switch and using it should require a detailed safety report as to why.
And instructions (and demos) on the technicalities of seatbelt use. In 2012. Really?

Oh.... and for NuGuy, I heard they didn't have to worry about this at NW. All PA's just said "PA done per SOPA/SMAC," and that one was a long PA.
I'm not one of them. This is what happens when we shrink. Guys are squeezed and are willing to go to school at a shot at a left seat even if only for a year.
Gloopy our scope does not limit geared turbofans it is a seat count jet weight combination limit. If there was a 50/70/76 seat gtf out there, they could replace all of the current fleet of DCI jets with me tomorrow. DCI would by default get a 20 year repreive. Going for this limit is in effect a sunset clause on current generation jets.
Like I said, wait for a TA to make a determination. Unity is leverage and like it or hate it we as a group have to get behind the opener. It is that simple.

I'm afraid that too many others will demand significant contractual improvements instead of the either sun setting the 70's or altogether re-capturing it. Complete restoration and bringing 50+ seaters to mainline will take more than one contract, that's reality. I would prioritize that with Scope being the most important item; thus this contract. Pay and work rules will naturally come when we do all of the flying, next contract. I'd guess that ALPA is going to try and stop the bleeding in regards to scope and try and maximize the rest of the contract.
I like including the prop and GTF in the scope language.
And you're right on with the pay and work rules, when we do all of the flying, the pay and work rules will follow

For all you Jacket haters out there, when can we stop wearing them? Too lazy to look it up.
