I do agree we are going to be short system wide. I disagree that they will begin acting like a regional.

I am convinced though that Delta scheduling will bend and violate the contract like regional schedulers do when they need trips covered and have no pilots available.
I looked at his situation:

If they CNXed his freedom leg which was out of LGA and rerouted him due to IROPS to another city where he overnightd to DH home today, I beleive that this is legal under the contract. I beleive 12 N states this. Is it go no, but he was in NYC, they needed a pilot and he got a short end of the stick. Hopefully he will get premium pay for today, but I do not see that in the PWA either. They will give him his off day back and explain that it was totally out of their hands.
I think that the issues in the NE were some of the worst the company has had to deal with in many years. They literally did not know what hotels people were staying in.

This gives me great confidence in the ability of the company to do its job. This seems to be another verification of the badly needed upgrade of IT at DAL. THis is one of my big issues when you have guys on here that complain about a jumpseat policy (peanuts) and then the company seems to not even have the ability to manage its workers in complicate weather situations(possibly huge money losses). So how much money does it cost the company when it does not properly staff the airline, but that is not a problem in that it rewards the pilot group with GS flying??? I agree that the GS system works in that it cost the company to do this and they choose to give green slips rather than staff the airline correctly. The numbers may even support this mode of operation. Who Knows??????

Keenster,

As long as I have been with Delta, the word has always been that it is cheaper to run the airline at a "certain" percentage of greenslips rather than hire more pilots. I don't know what that percentage is but this is what has been said in the past. Delta has always met the min staffing formula but that has always fewer pilots than are actually needed to run the airline.

I was over in JFK the last two days - complete zoo. On Saturday, many, many airplanes diverted from JFK to Albany, Dulles, Philly, and Hartford. Personally, it took me 9 hours to commute from DTW-JFK: long story short, it ended with a bus from ALB-JFK.

For me, scheduling was mostly on the ball. I think they were just completely overwhelmed. When one of your big, international hubs has most of the planes divert and dozens of planes on the ground there cancel - things aren't going run smoothly. I think the sheer number of changes would make it hard for them to call everyone.

Which is why the IT department needs to use some technology! I mean - how hard is it to have the automated call system be programmed to call pilots who's schedules have changed to say, "This is Delta Pilot crew scheduling - your rotation NYC1234 has changed/cancelled/ etc. Please check your schedule via iCrew/the VRU. Please only call scheduling if you cannot check your schedule online because we are really swamped".

Or they could send it via text message (to those who sign up in DBMS for that - so that we don't have to pay for a text if we don't have it on our.
phone).

Iaflyer;
Agreed. I was getting calls to check guys skeds because they could not get on to DBMS. Some have said it crashed early yesterday AM.

Lots o GS and IA's the last few days.

That said, Keenster, I agree. It needs an IT upgrade. World class means top to bottom.

One of my two favorite movies. I hear that Yeager is a jerk in real life... too bad. The movie persona was a guy I'd like to have a beer with.
Back in the 90s Yeager was a spokesman for NWA (check out youtube NWA commercials). He was being given a tour of our training department 3rd floor-think DAL 4th floor.

The CA giving the tour proudly proclaimed that all the folks on this floor were pilots. Yeager loooked around the floor and said; " I've never seen so many pilots afraid to fly" Gotta love that

Can someone tell me what our buddy E. Bastian's position is at DAL? He was the COO here pre merger right? He was then handed the title of President of NWA during the merger. The merger is complete he is now on the BOD but memo's and press releases continue to use the title president.
Some previous LEC44 reps were under then impression he might be taking a smaller role in things.
I'm confused, but that isn't hard to do!

Rumor has it a 88 capt got accused of drinking after passing thru security in SAV. Got pulled by local PD and TSA flight delayed.....had to reroute capt on over night for earlier flight to get this one out all be it very late!
The kicker.....he blew 0.0!!
Of course nothing will happen to the ass wipe that made the accusation, hell they might even get promoted. Mean while DAL lost pax and $$.
