Default Any "Anti Sully" folks watch Larry King?

"We are near equals..."

Can we put it to bed now, and focus on the positives?

"We don't use the term co-pilot, he is a first officer. He is a very experienced aviator, he was a captain for us before the cutbacks and furloughs."

I really enjoyed that interview. I think everyone involved is a class act.

I've had my gripes with the media's deification of Sully - right up to watching Larry King tonight. I still believe the media is a pack of morons who are always looking to put a quick label on a 30 second sound bite - but I thought the entire crew did a very good job of presenting themselves as competent professionals. In particular I noted the above quote crediting Jeff Skiles qualifications.

Now, all of that said - every union (APLA, USAPA, Teamsters, SWAPA, AIA, and whoever else I've forgotten) and every professional airman need to jump on this 15 minutes of fame and absolutely beat the horse to death (and them some) as to why professional aviators should be appropriately compensated. We have a small window of opportunity to raise public awareness of the devastation which has been wrought on our profession by criminal CEO's and Wall Street crooks (that's right, the same one's who've screwed over the econonmy at large and left Mr. and Mrs. America disenfranchised).

Everyone on these silly boards needs to quit denigrating the profession and take this chance as an opportunity to start rebuilding it. Congratulations to the Cockpit and Cabin crew of US1549 on a job well done, both in the skies over New York, and on Larry King tonight.

The first intelligent comment I heard about this subject. Right on!

Buddy, if pilots had half the brains to understand what you just wrote, aviation could just turn 180 for the better...but then again we are our worst enemy.

Well said.

I sent a letter to ALPA national asking if we would take advantage of the current positive press on Sully and crew and remind the public why you want well compensated people flying your aircraft. The response I got was "we can't praise a group of individuals who work for a union that broke away from ALPA". I thought they completely missed my point on this and I'm incredibly frustrated by the myopic vision of ALPA on this.
