ALPA - I just threw up in mouth a little
The Feb 2009 issue of Air Line Pilot, the official publication of ALPA, showed up today.
On page 5, ALPA President John Prater bloviates about how incredible and complete the ALPA communications has become. Unfortunately, his metric is based on 1985 standards and ALPA has done precious little to advance IT within ALPA since then.
Compelling accomplishments must include:
Boasting that ALPA is leading the communications charge is disingenuous when LEC's are stranded without the tools to be a part of the democratic process that capt. Prater eschews. If you like the taste of vomit in the back of you mouth, check out the article for yourself.

Compelling accomplishments must include:
- No viable National message forum
- Outdated freeware for LEC websites
- Limited to no training resources

Have you made any attempts to assist ALPA in this area?

Well, let's see:
Furloughed from NWA 01/01/2002
(thank you all NW LEC guys for helping with my health insurance for 15 months - I called and cancelled asap)
Hired at a Non-ALPA carrier 3/03, called back to NWA 5/07, resigned seniority at NWA and informed ALPA.
Recieved 4,357,289 emails from ALPA since, despite repeated calls....
Uhhhh, I don't work there anymore.....
Yesterday, rec'd letter "we have learned you are no longer employed at your airline....
<sigh>

And the opposite of that is, that when I switched from one ALPA carrier to the next, they were on top of all of it. In essence they beat me to it.
As with any organization, there are going to be some that get mishandled.

How could they stop them? Management has the same problem. They've attempted to shut down some of our independent message boards, but we can move around to another. The beauty of IT is it's flexibility and mobility.

Yes, Years worth
Agreed , IT is nimble except when deployed by ALPA. The point of my post is ALPA is leadership delusional if they honestly think that ALPA communications are a.) leading edge, and b.) Democratic in nature c.) effective.
There are many examples of where ALPA has failed, and many examples of where ALPA succeeds, but I would like to re-focus the thread on Prater's assertion that ALPA communications, specifically the ALPA.org web site, are adequate. My contention is that ALPA's web based communication effort has failed miserably.
