ATA airlines attempting to start charging to jumpseat?
I apologize if there is already a thread on this, as I can't find it. This was from a thread on my union board. Anyone else hear of anything like this?
"I just flew in on AA XXXX from XXX to XXX. The Captain pulled myself and three (other airline) pilots aside and informed us that their Union just got word from their management that AA, along with all the airlines that belong to the ATA, have decided to push through a $25.00 jumpseat fee for all jumpseaters, no matter if you are in a jumpseat or seat in the back.
Lets see you commute to work 5 times a month that adds up to $250.00 a month. When I asked the Captain what he had heard from the his Union he stated that they were trying to fight it but need to get everybody and their Unions on board to fight this. If my figures are correct then this would add up to nearly $3000.00 a year."

If it is true, it sounds like a pretty serious issue to me. I am just trying to see if there is some truth to what this pilot was told. Isn't that what these forums are for? While I was just quoting someone else, I think the math is correct. Don't forget to consider it is $25 each-way, i.e. 10 one-ways a month in the example. Please be considerate of others with your tone. I am not trying to start a flame war here. Again, just want to see if anyone has heard this.

How about calling your union, the jumpseat committee specifically, and getting the straight scoop? Just a thought.

Apologies for the tone. I was under the impression this was flame bait.
From my perspective, the last carrier I'd expect to try and force a jumpseat charge would be AMR against an already angry APA.
Although I'd give AMR credit for trying any way possible to be hostile to its own pilot group, this avenue of thinking would only lead to cancellations of AA flights. When competitors refuse to allow AA pilots to commute on them in protest it would effectively destroy any reliability in their schedule.

1st Q = I'm 104% positive ATA went out of business in March 2008
2nd Q = I'm an American FO, i've not heard a peep about any of this
3rd Q = The source I quoted was from an American Airlines captain so I take it this is something originating from APA?
ArcticDog is offline Report Post
This is a really Bad assumption
