More Great News for you SWA poolies!

Yea, ya know, I hate to be the one who brings up facts, but this has to be addressed; SWA will furlough if needed - if it can happen under Herb, it can certainly happen under Gary. In the early 80s the furlough notices were all but sent to 40 pilots. The only reason those guys stayed on the property was because SWAPA stepped in and everyone took a reduction in pay to keep those guys on board. There was no "caring" from SWA - it was business -and that is the way it was. The sooner you realize, while SWA is a fantastic place to work, it really is just business, the better (imo). Gary (or Herb) isn't your dad and this isn't a "family" - it's a business and we are hourly employee's.
You mention that you haven't taken a pay cut. All of the line totals are down for Dec, Jan and Feb with very little discretionary flying available to make up the difference. That is a pay cut.
And before I'm labeled as a malcontent or told "if you're not happy leave" - let me be clear; I'm very happy at SWA and don't want to work anywhere else. But I feel a little truthful perspective was in order.

Very true .. SWA is a great place to work... but it is a business. I have no illusions to the fact that if it's me vs. the bottomline... I will ultimately lose. You can only reduce flying so much before the upper echelon start squawking. That's why I think it's soooo important in this industry to have another skill set to fall back onto.
A company doesn't have to lose money to layoff/furlough people. Microsoft is still making billions and they layed off a butt load of people.
On the koolaid side of the house... I love SWA and hope it is my first and last airline. That being said, I will vote NO on any contract where codeshare is not kept in check.
