Delta Bid results are posted

I saw it, and as an almost Deltoid, I can say I don't understand it. I don't think I ever will. They just had a sizeable bid with a lot of awards, now it seems that was all washed away. Seems like a waste of a lot of things to me; time, training cost, ect.
Summary: It seems like they moved a lot of people to the MD-88 and a lot of people off the 767 in ATL. It probably wouldn't be so bad if they/we had recall rights beyond 180 days. Coming from the NWA APA system, their AE system doesn't seem fair to me. But who am I to judge?

This should be on the list for 2012. Sounds like a win/win for both pilots and management.

When I look at their "award," all I can think of is all of the training that will be needed in the other direction when they get their 777's and that the people who can get back to their original equipment requiring the least amount of training probably won't even have recall rights, because if they did what would be the point of recalling them within 180 days or even displacing them in the first place? I won't even get into the whole notion of voluntary displacing off of an aircraft to bump someone else off of another aircraft so they can bump someone else....
What a waste. The bottom line is that their system is just plain dumb.

It seems as though it should AND no negotiating capital needs to be expended.

It seems a waste because you don't understand it. The staffing is already in place for the 777s, via the last bid back in November. The displacements are because the MD88 right seat has been short staffed for the past few months via an LOA with the company. They wanted to hire in order to fill that void, as it is the cheapest way to do so for the 88 right seat. Apparently the economy calls for stagnation, though. It will be interesting to see what actually happens when the full staffing of NWA is required via contract what they will do then.

I think he feels it's a waste moreso because of the mandatory displacements (he termed it voluntary.) The 239 pilots they needed to shuffle has led to a ridiculous number of training events with all the bumping from one catagory to another via the mandatory displacements. It does seem like a huge cost?
