Yeah can't wait for Deborah Hersman to "stumble" her way through another press briefing.

From the NTSB site "Member Hersman holds a commercial drivers license with passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements. She successfully completed a motorcycle basic rider course and holds a motorcycle endorsement. Member Hersman is a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. She has also completed the 40-hour HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard) training course."

Good to go!

Now that is funny - like his reasonable and thorough investigation this time around? Seriously? Was he on scene? Did he interview anyone before he came to these pronouncements on probable cause?

No, here is what Feith is - he is a media wh*** who pimps himself out to plaintiff's attorneys as an "expert" witness with little regard for the truth and willing to say anything on the stand if the money is right. What you saw on the TV was that bag o' crap running an advertisement to the attorneys that will eventually represent the families that sue Continental. That was his way of saying "open for business! Looks like reckless to me!!!"

If you have not picked up on the vibe, he and his ilk disgust me.

I just left KDEN yesterday on 34R. There were a set of skid marks starting about the 2000-2500 ft point from the take off end that went towards the fire station then off the end of the plateau the runway is built on. We were approaching 80kts by that point.

All you can see from the runway was the very tip of the Vert Stab. After seeing that, I am much more impressed that no one was killed or more seriously injured than they were.

I thought VMO was making a good joke until I went to the link you put up.
The NTSB sure has slid a long way since I did AIC work, sad, and probably dangerous. Airbrake qualified, took a riders safety course YGBSM.

i believe DEN 34r is a CAT III runway with center line lights. The thumping could have been the nose gear contacting the lights as they accelerated down the runway. Just a thought...

Wish I was joking 757. Obviously the NTSB covers a wide range of transportation arenas, but it would be nice to see some "related" experience. And after seeing her at the Lexington crash and a couple others since than, it's been pretty embarrassing at times to watch her struggle through a simple press briefing. The look on one of her coworkers, who stood behind her at the briefing on the Lear 60 crash, was priceless.

Guess I just expect too much.

I think I recognize that name from COM5191. If it's the same woman I didn't have a very high opinion of her.

Those darn lights are a pain in my butt. I always try to come right or left of centerline to avoid hitting them. Especially in the CRJ-200 it really shakes the flight deck and is quite irritating. It's probably not too good for the landing gear either.

I didn't think of the centerline lights as a possible cause of the thumping, but I guess anything is possible. I wouldn't have thought the lights would make a enough noise to be heard on the CVR. Do we know if they've reviewed the FDR yet?

Default The thumping noise

I'm sure we all know, as pilots, how much noise airplanes make on t/o that might be construed to an outsider as 'weird' or would otherwise attract attention.

But it's important to note that the NTSB investigator who released the info on the thumping noise was not an amateur, nor even Ms. Hersman. It was Robert Sumwalt. Given his background (Biography of Honorable Robert L. Sumwalt, NTSB Board Vice Chairman), I don't believe he's being fooled by centerline lights or any other 'normal' noise an older 73 makes as it rumbles down the runway.
