NWA Retirements
It was predicted that the number of retirements prior to DCC would be somewhere around 1,000. That number was revised (ostensibly due to the short timeline of Govt approval to DCC)....any actual numbers being floated yet?

I think there was one guy that threw out that 1000 number, and I don't think that anyone else on our side really believed that would happen. Of course we all hoped it would, but that's not worth much. I haven't heard any official numbers, but it sounds like there were only 20-30 guys (over and above the guys that already had there papers in) that retired at the last minute prior to dcc. Total for the year is approaching 300 guys, which is still pretty good when you consider that none of them had to retire this year.

I have moved up close to 250 numbers from 8 months ago to dcc. It's not 1000 but it is a quarter of the way there. What a lot of Dal guys don't understand is a lot of guys that are going to retire can't do it before 60 or risk losing their overage payout from the pension which is a six digit number. If they go past 60 that overage number decreases, ergo working for free.
250 numbers is 5% of our list, that's significant! Further we will have guys cut out after the equity payment as they have alternate access to health insurance. So, it seems nwa guys we keep having to show/prove that we have and will have attrition but what about DAL? How many guys have you had retire this year?

Your career increases in value two ways - growth and attrition. Each one improves your percentage on the list. We acknowledge your superior attrition over the next few years, but you never acknowledge our superior growth as proven by the fact that we have 700 new hires to your 200. You also fail to acknowledge that our attrition far exceeds yours after this initial wave of guys retires.
Carl, and others, only want to talk about near term attrition, as if that's the only thing that matters. It's only one part of a complicated equation, and should be weighted, but only as ONE part.

On another note, strong rumors are coming out that they are considering pulling 30 dc-9s out of the desert for next summer's flying. NWA is delaying implementing the work rules from the new contract until next fall, why that is I have no idea, but the new rules would have us 300 pilots short. Since we are not hiring right now I have no idea how this staffing is going to work. First, we are still losing 20-25 pilots a month then add the new rules and the 9's and you have some pretty significant shortages. So much for getting our caps down to 75 as it looks like we will stay in the mid to upper 80s for some time to come.
Oh, by the way, we're already short as evidenced by crew skeds calling me twice this month on my days off.
