Charter airliners for professional sports teams

Sports Teams
Cptmorgancrunch:
You would have to check almost every professional sports team individually as they each have a contract with different providers. NWA has signed a contract to fly a number of teams,as was stated earlier, but the rest run the gamut. Some teams have their own aircraft (Dallas Mavericks 757) and some use major carriers with which they have an affiliation.
For the teams that have contracts with an air carrier or supplemental carrier to provide the service (Pace Airlines, Sportsjet, Miami Air), flying the teams can really be a great gig. The baseball teams usually provide tickets for the games on road trips and when they are in the same city for several games, it is great. Hockey teams and to some degree, football teams come in for the game and as soon as the game is over, often times they leave so there isn't as much of an opportunity to go to the games.
Most professional athletes are very courteous and professional in the manner in which they handle themselves. Remember, they have a "team manager" or traveling secretary (not the coach) that is the contact person and who runs the show for travel purposes. If a player gets out of line, that person has the authority to step in and "take necessary action", although it's pretty rare for that to happen. The best news, after the team leaves...there is A LOT of food !!!!
G'Day Mates....50 yard line tickets and 3 flight attendants are waiting. Gotta go !!

BTW, NWA has a NBA contract for about 18 teams, about 9 college teams (along with several one or two charters for other colleges), 8 NFL teams, and numerous NHL teams (dont the the #'s). This in addition to the military charters.

Was in EWR last week. Sitting on the FedEX ramp with both engines shut down because the wait for takeoff was about 40 minutes...
When in chimes a DL flight... "ah ground....could we ahh... go to the front of the line because we...ahhh...have the Jets on board"....
Maybe if the Jets win the Super Bowl.....

USAirways does the Steelers on a 757, Miami Air flies the Penguins usually a 734, and Im pretty sure Delta uses a 738 for the Pirates. The new Jersey Devils have their own 727. I also believe the Toronto Maple Leafs fly on Air Canada's 320's

There is an article on espn.com regarding the airplanes. Both are -300ERs. Word on airliners.net is they are both former AA birds, former registrations N366AA and N39367. Will be re-registered N36NE and N225NE.
