Default Even United Managers Occassionally Trip Across Good Ideas

United is First Airline to Offer Door-to-Door Baggage Service

Even bumbling managers occasionally trip over a good idea; this being one of them. This is one of the few fee-for-services the airlines offer that actually adds value to the passenger experience.

Am I missing something? Why would I pay $149 bucks to overnight a bag when I can just take it with me? Are people really this lazy? Are the fees on United this high now to check a bag?

Over 10 years ago, I flew with a real rich guy (flew as a hobby, bet he's retired now). But he tried to sell this idea to NWA. Pick up your bag at your house, process it at night when it's slow, ship it on a red eye flight and deliver it to your hotel so it could be waiting in your room when you arrive for your meeting.

No carry on, no ticket counter..........and today no TSA hassel.

NWA wasn't interested into getting into the trucking business necessary for home delivery. We spent many long redeye night discussing the logistics. Smart/Rich guys are always trying to figure out how to build a mousetrap.

Great, just one more way for them to lose your bag.

When doing the airshow circuit, I used to use good old reliable Fed-ex to ship my close from hotel to hotel for a much cheaper rate.

UAL management is steering the airline to bottom feederville. I feel sorry for the fine guys and gals who try to make it happen.

from the article in USA Today, i think they are using Fedex.

and i think the phrase, "even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now & then" more accurate than the broken clock reference. right twice a day is way too often...
