Guys,
When I was deadheading/ jumpseating, the AirTran crews were the most accomodating folks around, so I wanted to pass this on.
An Airtran pilot showed me a letter from their in-house union, NPA, that he had just received. the letter announced management's intent to reduce/ furlough 20 Cap and 15 F/O from the 737, effective 1Jan09. No furloughs from the 717 crews.
Is it possible that the NPA contract allows furlough by equipment, rather than overall seniority? This seems egregious at best. If you are moving around the system, I believe the AirTran folks deserve some words of encouragement and support.
With all of the warts that ALPA has, apparently it remains better than many of the independent alternatives.

The 2nd round of reductions at AirTran will not result in any furloughs.
Company is offering leaves and Zero Time Lines in order to keep everyone.
And, yes, it would be accomplished by seniority, it's just that there would be no reductions on the 717 side, unlike the September furlough.

I have family and friends at AirTran, so I'm on your side. I probably misread the NPA statement, but I didn't see anything about an excess bid from the 73.
If 35 guys from the 73 don't volunteer for loa, or zero hour lines, and there is no 73 excess bid, how will AirTran reduce 73 crews without a furlough by equipment, rather than seniority?
For everyone's sake, I hope I totally misunderstood the statement.
Best regards,
BG

Regarding the September furloughs: Can any AirTran guy tell me how far back that went as far as hire date? Know a guy hired in mid-summer 2007 and haven't heard back from him in awhile. Last I heard from him was it was going to be close and he was taking wait and see approach. Anyone know the hire date of the most junior guy on property? Thanks.

What's a ZERO TIME line? You mean you can sit home while getting your 70 hour guarantee pay without actualy flying or that you sit home but aren't getting paid at all. If so, isn't a furlough better? I mean at least you can get some unemployment pay/benefits. I'm confused...
