Delta Hiring?

Nothing other than rumors. Various management types have said that we'll hire late this year, but that's been refuted by Richard Andersen. That being said, a bunch of 777s are showing up in early 2009; they have to be manned.

I doubt we will hire until sometime next year. There are categories (ATL 767 domestic FO) that surprisingly are fat now with the reduction of flying. With the next AE, they will not backfill into the ATL 767. However, they will backfill the ER. As a result, some of the potential need for new hires will be temporarily negated due to the reduction of certain categories. However, there is talk about possibly not putting certain airplanes into the desert. Every a/c that stays with DAL or NWA will mean that those pilots can't get pulled off to man the 777. I think we will be hiring next year its just a question of when.

The recent LOA allowed them the ability not to hire until after DCC and the SLI is complete. It will keep the bottom of the list much cleaner in the near term.
Look for interviewing late this year or in the first quarter next year. Unless we go and just plain park a ton of airplanes simple math states that we need bodies for next summer. After the AE in the next month we will have a better idea in where to sick them.

The planned fall hiring was canceled when a agreement was reached to allow MD88 copilots to fly additional hours in Jan, Feb and March. Gives the company breathing room to see what the actual needs will be after the DCC.

Unfortunately, it doesn't give the MD88 FO's any breathing room! Except for the exhausted, breathless, gasping for air kind.

Yes, but it does a few things that most pilots could not see around. It allows the company some breathing room instead of doing two things that they would have to do otherwise.
Hiring before the SLI causes some possible issues, so it is just plain better to wait until that is completed. The other is noting that needs to be discussed before arbitration.
