ALPA Vs. Spirit

The more of these we see the better!!
December 19, 2008
MIRAMAR, FLORIDA – Ultra low cost carrier Spirit Airlines today filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation requesting authorization to begin service between Fort Lauderdale and Armenia, Colombia. If approved, Spirit plans to begin non-stop service between the two cities by summer 2009. This will complement Spirit’s current Colombian service, including daily non-stop service from Fort Lauderdale to both Bogota and Cartagena, including daily connections from 16 cities in the United States. And as Spirit announced yesterday, the airline will also begin daily non-stop service to Medellin, Colombia on March 1, 2009.

Do any of you Spirit guys log in over at the spirit pilots board? That board runs hot and cold. It's hot today. Someone outed an OT ho, and the A320 rumors are hot today.
don't leave here, I've been here longer than there, but checking both places is good practice.

An "OT ho" at Spirit!!! NEVER!!!
Imagine that, pilots on the street, and pilots STILL helping the company by picking up OT (probably at 200+%).
Was it G.M., or J.C.D.? Those two are KNOWN for it!!!!
ME,ME,ME...
Those guys HAD to have made $200k + last year!!! I was at $150k, and didn't work that hard!!! Those guys were throwing away the contract, and working what seemed like 200% trips every week!!!
Hey, any chance of you guys hiring? STILL looking for a job!!

JC is all over that OT, but he has bigger problems now than the pilots being ****ed at him (I wont mention what on a public forum)....rumors are all to the positive side so I wouldn't be suprised if we were hiring by the fall of 09.

So how many of you furloughed guys have been living the unemployment dream? I ended up staying in Ft. Lauderdale and finding a gig working as a CFI again. I'm afraid every day that the FAA is going to come knocking on my door, but I've survived thus far. Anyone else find something to do in the interim? I guess it's my wishful thinking that we'll be back in a couple of months... (sorry no new rumours here! you'll have to get your crack fix elsewhere)

I was a CFI with another NK bud for a while. That school turned out to be very slow. That btw did not surprise me for the quality (or lack of) training that was provided. They promised us 100h+ a month, then it turned out they expected you to find your own students. We both left after only a month or so.
I ended up flying boxes at night for a p135 place. It is slave work but I wish I had done this for time building instead of instructing. That paid 16k. My 135 pays 36k/year. Almost the same as guarantee on reserve at NK. Of course I work a lot more for that money. At NK on reserve you basically do not work if you live in base. You can't call 4-5 days a month anything other than a hobby. Different story if you commute. Now I fly 130+ hours/month. Ouch... Considering the safety factor and the workload, and that I don't really need the money badly, I think I should have gone on unemployment instead.
Btw anyone knows what unemployment pays in FL? Roughly?

Unemployment in FL is one of the worst in the nation. Maximum is $275/week. I've been on it since Sep. Its going to run out in Feb, so hopefully the MAR recall rumors are true. I thought about going back to instructing, but I despised the work towards the end of my CFI career. Applied at Flt Express....nothing.

As I understand it, where I am at I get a max of $450 a week for 26 weeks. Followed by an additional 20 weeks of benifits at 80% of my normal weekly benfit amount. Then the additional 13 weeks that they just issued.
