Sorry to disagree. When the Ds took control of Congress, they said they were going to change things. Well.. they did. Gas prices doubled, food prices have gone up considerably, unemployment is up and Harry said, "the war is lost". The only good news is Harry was wrong. But you can understand why the new mantra of "Change" from the same party causes me a bit of concern... and even more so when it offers no solutions and higher taxes.

And truth is until BOTH parties decide to work on solutions (not just campaign promises which have about as much chance of becoming reality as pig flying) and forgo partisan politics in the quest for more power it is only going to get more painful for the citizens. Of course, the politicians are insulated from the actual outcome of their actions. I doubt Chuckie lost any money in the collapse.

if you have higher spending like we've had for the last 8 years shouldn't there be higher taxes? how do you pay for the higher spending?

What do you do in your household, write more useless checks or cut back on spending.

Raising taxes isn't the answer. Living within ones means is, something the fools in Washington will never undrerstand, too many project to throw money at, to many earmarks, too much waste. SS is going broke, Medicare/Medicaid is even worse and all we got is a bunch of IOU's.

We sent a billion to New Orleans, wow, we will end up spending a trillion in Iraq. Wonder where the taxpayers dollars should go? This isn't about the war on terror, I gave up on that one, this is about priorities.

Ask the wrong question and you usually get the wrong answer. And you imply that it is Bush who spent it. Congress spends the money. Not the President.

You assume there has to be higher spending. I don't... someone once said that giving the recent Congresses the power to tax and spend is like giving a teen the keys to the liquor cabinet and Corvette.. little good is going to come of it.

The Federal, state and local government have been using very fat pencils for the last few decades and now money is getting tight. Costs are up. Unless we want to discuss what 'is' is, we can't change the meaning of the word but there hasn't been a recession yet but if we continue, it appears there will be one and higher taxes when people's pockets are thin is not the answer.

But, I figure Congress will take the easy way out, spend more and tax more... expect new 'fees', expect old tax breaks to melt away and expect your wallet to get even thinner. AND that 401K and IRA you have been sitting on... you can expect within the next decade someone is going to say, "You know.. that Stratton guy has a lot of money and there are many unfortunate people who don't have money. Le'ts put a surcharge tax on that evil Mr. Stratton.. he don't need all that money."

Envy works every time. And like Willy Sutton said when asked why he robbed banks, "...because that's where the money is." And Hillary and Michelle have already said they are going to take from those who have and give to those who don't.

Sorry for the long answer...

Yes and yelling "Fire!" in a theater just because someone lit a cigarette is also telling the truth. I don't mean to sound like a jerk but it's the best analogy that came to mind.
