Jumpseat Denial (This could get interesting)

This resoulution would be a very bad thing if it passes.
I have worked for both union ands non union companies. The non union ones were much more stable jobs.
Many non union 121 pilots were once ALPA members but got screwed out of their jobs by the mighty, self serving, bloated ALPA leadership.
I now work for a union carrier and am once again sliding backwards on the seniority list. I will not deny anyone a jumpseat but do expect them respectfully ASK permission to use it.

are you sure on this one. I was told that the first few pilots (management types) voted in teamsters right away so they wouldn't get ALPA. this was directly from one of my reps at a previous job. the number of pilots that come to mind was about 8. don't hold be to that though, it's just what comes to mind.

Never mind that Alaska pilots took a 34% pay cut three years ago, and they weren't even in bankruptcy! Any business professional with an ounce of self-respect would have voted with his or her feet and submitted their resignation. It's easy. You can go for wordy and pompous, like "Dear Mr. Ayer, due to the unconscionable effects of Kasher, I must at this time tender my resignation.. blah blah blah." You can go simple: Grab a post-it note, "Dear Bill, f*ck you, I quit."
The Kasher award was indeed an unwarranted slash of pilot's pay at Alaska. And every pilot who thought it unconscionable should have QUIT. Want to know why Alaska cut its pilot's salaries by 34% when they had no need to do so? Because they could. Now they're dragging their feet in the current negotiations, because if history repeats itself, Bill Ayer knows he has nothing to fear from Alaska's pilots.

Wow Slipstream! Let's not hold anything back! You just disparaged an entire pilot group for not quitting in mass over an imposed pay cut. Maybe you have not been around long enough to experience the ups and downs of this business. Sometimes we win, sometimes management wins. We had a great contract prior to this and we had management over a barrel on many issues. Now it seems it is their turn. Your surprising failure to recognize this before you ran your mouth off about "self respecting" pilots says a bit about your understanding of things.

I heard it was before they were flying but either way what they did is crap whether it was union or non union.

I've only been in this business for 20 odd years, but I learned very quickly that the toes you step on today are likely to be attached to the butts you kiss tomorrow. AND, as a guy who commutes to work...well I hope this proposal goes down in flames.

sorry... but to regain unity in this profession we need one voice representing "US" ie: out profession. Now although ALPA has fumbled the ball time and time again, that fact does not take away from the basic logic.
I remember trying to jumpseat on Eastern but did not have an ALPA card , so I was denied (and ****ed). But...looking at the BIG PICTURE, we all need to belong to ONE / Same union: and this is just a starting point. don't like it? then ride on someone else or buy a ticket OR>> maybe even join our brother union members. Jet Blue's management is only willing to pay "competetive" wages negotiated by others dues monies.
The truth is we need unity , so when do we start?
