I am curious as to the details of other carrier's arrangements. Keep in mind CAL never even announced furloughs or any number attached to that. They announced fleet reductions, which allowed most people to deduce that furloughs were imminent. I find it interesting that UAL came right out with their 950 number. What are other companies doing to 'mitigate' furloughs? Personally, I found our LOA insulting, hastily put together, and not easily interpreted by lawyers or CPAs.

Thanks for putting it up though. I hope the pilots at other airlines use this as a template and significantly improve on it. I am ashamed that it is the best our MEC could come up with as it illustrated the level of selfishness running rampant amongst our ranks and only fuels the theories of management lining our ALPA leaders pockets. The fact is: this LOA does make a significant financial change to guys on property and should've been put up to a vote - per the contract and bylaws. I'm certain my peers will agree with me that it does nothing to prevent junior manning or the open-time pickup that runs rampant amongst the senior pilots and scabs. I won't forget this one...

what is really sad is that not 1 management team has offered to reduce their pay in order to try to save some jobs.why should we keep giving if management does not give first!

The company also said Chairman and Chief Executive Lawrence Kellner and President Jeff Smisek will not take salaries or incentive pay for the rest of the year.
While it's only the two execs, and only lasts through the end of the year - I thought it was an appropriate gesture.

Buddy, I've got news for you. The FO I was flying with the other night was an open time pick up who has only been on property for 11 months. I let him know I I felt about it too. I simply asked, "Are you nuts. Are you trying to get furloughed?"

And at 30.00 bucks an hour. It's not just those senior doing this it is your very own.

All things are relative....from the point of view of one of the 950 who is on the chopping block at UAL, that LOA looks pretty darn good, not perfect, but good. I just hope furloughs are not necessary for you guys.

Did you vote yes for C02? Where you not here for C02? If you voted No then you are pointing the finger at the wrong people. If you voted yes, then you have no one to blame but yourself. And lastly if you werenlt here then why did you accept the job? The contract that allows all this BS was in force.

Now before you spout back let me say this. I voted NO. I voted Hell NO!

Secondly, the only reason the company did not announce furloughs was because they announced them to the union and the union went into mitigation mode.

I guess you'd rather be at United with a furlough letter as ooppsed to a mitigation LOA that might save many from going out for a time. I complain about the union all the time but at least I'm smart enough to know when something has been done to at least hold judgement until the senior guys act on it one way or the other. Right now you don;t know what it will do no more than I do but at least CAL ALPA has kept others and possibly you from seeing an official OH **** letter yet.

To my knowledge, no one here has received an "Oh ****" letter, yet.
Our guys/girls are trying to work some things out. Management isn't the best here though.

My comment wasn't directd at you or United. But the guy I quoted was ****ed about the Mitigation LOA and I simply said would he rather have a firm furlough notice instead.

As I understood it United has announced 900+ furloughs going back to 1999 hire dates. Is that not true?
