How does, well, $5590 month sound? You want an Apples-to-Apples comparison, here it is.

Guys,
Whilst the Qantas pay looks good, you have to remember that they're paying 40% tax in a country where the cost of living is double, what it would be in the US.
You have to put your hand in your pocket just to walk out the door here. What cost me US$80 for groceries in the US, costs me about AU$150. My rent used to be US$1500 and now it's AU$2500 for a smaller apartment. Oh and a beer in Sydney will cost about AU$8-11. The one bedroom apartment I rent in Sydney, would cost me around AU$600k to buy and the the monthly repayments would be around AU$4000. You can forget a 4-5%, 30 year fixed mortgage. it's 8-9%, variable rate here.
The flying is actually incredibly boring and can be very frustrating with their screwed up airspace systems and idiotic rules. Added to which, it's a checking culture, not a training culture. Guys fail PC's all the time here.
Due to all the Qantas flying being given to Jetstar, they have anounced massive layoffs, including about 200 pilots. There's always another side to the story.
