Type rating when on furlough
#11
Call Sophie at K&S. When I got furloughed last time, Sophie was able to tell me who to contact in my state. After tracking the guy down, it was actually quite painless to get through all the paperwork. MD gave me $5000 for the type.

Not exactly. I had 3 buddies that just got hired , 1 with emirates and 2 with qatar all on A330. None had type and all 3 had 3200-3500 TT plus 800 pic RJ. So i don't think time on type really matters unless you're shooting directly for the left seat.

Uncle Sam is hiring...anybody care to help us out with that little thing called the Global War on Terrorism? May or may not be flying, but I can guarantee you a regular paycheck with very limited chance of a furlough any time soon.

Type
I got a full ride type. My only mistake was to get it in the 737. It seems that once you have the 737 type everybody thinks you are planning to go to SWA. As such you could miss out on a few jobs if you pick the 737.
There is nothing wrong with SWA just that no one wants to be a rung on the ladder for you to get there. The 737 type seems to suggest that your intentions are to go to SWA.

I'm not trying to be funny but instead rather serious when I ask this. With no hiring and the possibility of a lot of furloughs in the industry, what good will a type rating do? If one can get money for some type of training, I would think that money would be better spent on something other than aviation.

The A320 type is getting lots of Skybus bus pilots hired in China and India according to a friend who is in China now doing the license conversion. I don't know if the contracts call for experience on type though. Airbus has sold a lot of single aisle equipment overseas and I'd imagine it would be a good type to have if you are interested in flying overseas until things pick back up here. Good luck all.
